@siblingpastry Of course :) The mastodon case is also a case of user-generated content.
Every link takes 23 symbols from the default 500 symbols limit regardless of its length; links due to the params junk can often be very long; if displayed untrimmed, they could potentially result in unusable UI and very difficult to read text due to them going over multiple lines and overshadowing the actual content.
Same for the link description, though I'd argue it could be improved :)
There's been a lot of discussion about masonry in CSS recently. I wrote about the Chrome team's proposal to help clarify why we have concerns with bundling masonry in with grid, and to show that a separate spec doesn't mean fewer features. https://developer.chrome.com/blog/masonry#css
Such sad news. Molly was a trailblazer for web standards, an amazing writer and educator. She cared about the web so deeply, and forged a path that folk like me followed.
I've been trying to write a blog post this evening that involved looking back at old blog posts, and I realise how much I used my blog back in the pre-social media days to log my thoughts. It made me kind of sad that I've given so much of that to social media, to someone else's platform, over the past 10 years.
@rachelandrew It’s really about time that the pendelum swings back from microblogging towards a more sustainable hybrid of blogging and microblogging (along with other kind of sharing like link sharing in @adactio links style)
Chrome 117 beta is out today. It includes subgrid for CSS Grid. A feature I have felt was important for CSS grid layout for at least (checks actual notes/old blog posts) 8 years, and it's heading for interop status.
align-content for block and table layout is in Chrome 123 (Beta out today). If there is a chance you've used align-content outside of flex and grid layout, as it didn't do anything due to lack of implementations, it would be a good time to check your site for strange alignment. Safari and Firefox also have this on the way. https://developer.chrome.com/blog/align-content#css
I'm working through the Flask Mega-Tutorial by @miguelgrinberg which I am appreciating as a Python newbie, and as a technical writer. It does a lovely job of revealing things you need to know as you go along, while getting something real working quickly. I'm coming from years of PHP development, and am finding that just as I think "but how would I...?" there's a note explaining exactly that.
My daughter is doing a ridiculous thing for the Guide Dogs charity, abseiling down the Cheesegrater building in London (after running up over 1000 steps to get to the top!)
I’ve always liked taking photos of flowers and gardens, and it amazes me that despite my lack of competence or knowledge all this stuff has grown in my own garden. #garden#summer
I think the lack of knowledge makes it more fun. There's stuff I planted last year that I'm completely amazed by, as I had no idea what it would do. All the roses were planted last summer, so did a bit of flowering, but this year they are beautiful.
Also, I had NO IDEA what terrifying looking beasties live in the ground.
