If inflation comes up at the BBQ today, don’t forget to draw attention to a deeper structural driver of high prices: the concentration of the economy in the hands of a few corporate giants with the power to price-gouge, even as they rake in record profits.

Trump called fallen service members "losers" and "suckers" — according to his chief of staff — he publicly accused soldiers with PTSD of not being "strong," demeaned POWs, and insulted Gold Star parents & a widow. When he pretends to honor service members today, don't believe it.

Little more serious than this relatable moment.

Target's profit increased 49% to $4.1B last year, even with slower sales.

Its CEO received $18M in compensation on the year while the company paid $508M in dividends in Q4.

Makes you wonder if Target could have lowered its prices a lot sooner but just chose not to.

Hello?

Every corporation that jacked up their prices during the supply chain collapse could have reverted their prices sooner. Few if any chose to do so. Target is no better (or, I suppose, worse)?

Justice Samuel Alito flew not one, but two pro-insurrection flags at his homes.

Alito not being forced to recuse from Trump's immunity case and upcoming Jan 6 cases tells you everything you need to know about the SCOTUS code of "ethics" established last year.

Hint: It's a sham.

Wall Street tycoon Stephen Schwarzman endorsed Trump yesterday.

He joins a growing list of billionaires who once condemned the former president but are now flocking to his campaign.

Never underestimate how quickly billionaires will sell out our democracy for tax cuts.

Europe has tougher laws on ticket fees and reselling. The result?

Tickets to Taylor Swift's European tour, air fare + hotel can cost LESS than one of her concert tickets in the US.

If that's not another reminder that we need to crack down on Ticketmaster, I'm not sure what is.

Memo to the media: Don't write about corporations suddenly lowering prices without mentioning how their profits have been skyrocketing or their tax bills have been shrinking. They could have kept prices lower all along. They chose note to. Give people the full picture.

Spoiler alert: The media is the corporations. No daylight between them. ‘Twas ever thus.

50 billionaire families have spent $600 million+ on the 2024 elections, which is .06% of their total wealth.

The equivalent donation for an avg household would be ~$100.

This means 50 billionaires have the political-spending capacity of 6 million American families.

Oligarchy.

Justice Roberts refused to testify in a hearing on Supreme Court ethics.

Thomas secretly accepted gifts from a GOP megadonor and his wife was involved in Jan 6.

Alito flew not one, but two insurrectionist flags.

The list goes on.

Is it any wonder Americans don't trust SCOTUS?
