I hate how Joe Biden has done pretty much everything I was afraid Donald Trump would do, and broken his campaign promises of significance.

rchusid,
@rchusid@med-mastodon.com avatar

@florida_ted I mean far more than selling out to the rich re Biden. I mean being al leading force re mass incarceration & the war on drugs--pushing people like Reagan to the right on these issues. Genocide--even Reagan restrained Israel when in office. Attacking the 1st Amendment with prosecution of Assange. Pushing restrictions in Patriot Act even before 9/11. Changing primary rules to prevent a challenge to himself & in the future. He has done far more long term damage than Trump managed to.

rchusid,
@rchusid@med-mastodon.com avatar

@florida_ted Both Trump and Biden are awful, and voting for either only perpetuates this cycle of each party going further and further to the right. The neocon foreign policy & restrictions on civil liberties supported by Biden were seen as the greatest threat to liberty by Democrats just 20 years ago.

rchusid,
@rchusid@med-mastodon.com avatar

@JoeQuinlan @florida_ted I see embracing the never Trumpers as embracing the situation which started with Democrats accepting an authoritarian warmonger as candidate in 2016. By then Democrats were basically Bush/Cheney Republicans, making this even stronger as they united with people like Liz Cheney.

rchusid,
@rchusid@med-mastodon.com avatar

@JoeQuinlan @florida_ted Compromising principle like this led us to where we are today, where Democrats are ok with 1) genocide, 2) allowing Covid to spread out of control, and 3) tampering with primary rules to further restrict the possibility of reforming the party. Any of these are reasons not to vote for Biden. No need to list the reasons not to vote for Trump.

rchusid,
@rchusid@med-mastodon.com avatar

@Mary625 @JoeQuinlan @florida_ted Democratic rigging of primaries has been a progression. We've had issues like super delegates and front loading of southern states for years, but at least Iowa and New Hampshire gave insurgent candidates a chance to get started. Eugene McCarthy ended LBJ's presidency by embarrassing him in New Hampshire. New Hampshire helped Sanders. New Hampshire almost stopped Biden--so he made sure a friendlier state would go first.

rchusid,
@rchusid@med-mastodon.com avatar

@Mary625 @JoeQuinlan @florida_ted But the bottom line is that we should never vote for a candidate who supports genocide--and keep in mind that Biden was called Genocide Joe for his intentional mishandling of Covid even before Gaza. Picking a lesser evil becomes nonsense when considering a candidate who is engaging in war crimes.

During a pandemic one would think that presidential candidates would be promoting their plans to improve public health. Instead we have Trump recently attacking school vaccination requirements, Biden dissuading use of masks & setting policies to send people back to work when contagious, & the top polling third party candidate is anti-vaxxer RFK Jr.

Biden is ignoring Long Covid similar to how Reagan ignored AIDS. We should not repeat that mistake.

If seeing Biden both facilitating genocide in Gaza and destroy public health, allowing Covid to cause a mass disabling event, isn't enough to show how dangerous Vote Blue No Matter Who is, I don't know what will convince them. Right wingers are dangerous regardless of whether they have an R or a D after their name.

The SOTU was painful to watch. Such a combination of lies and right wing, pro-war, even racist framing mixed in with a handful of progressive promises he will never keep. Meanwhile, despite his mission accomplished claims, Covid will continue to kill and disable due to Biden dismantling public health precautions, and the genocide will continue in Gaza. Genocide Joe has got to go.

Anti-vaxxers have dissuaded people from having Covid boosters claiming that they are harmful to the immune system. Lancet reports on a case of someone who had 217 vaccines over 29 months. While clearly excessive, this did no harm.

It is as if Biden and Trump are having a contest to see how many people they can kill by destroying public health in this country. The same week guidelines changed to send people back to school and work while still infectious we got this from Trump:

It is meaningless for Biden or Harris to call for a temporary ceasefire when they are actively supporting genocide in Gaza. The only acceptable course of action is for them to stop funding Israeli genocide, stop interfering with UN humanitarian aid & stop vetoing UN resolutions for a ceasefire.

Biden claimed before the Michigan primary that a ceasefire was at hand this weekend, probably in hopes of keeping voters from voting Uncommitted in protest of his support for genocide in Gaza. Responses from both Israel and Hamas cast doubt on that. Biden is walking back that lie.

Uncommitted greatly exceeded expectations with over 100,000 votes plus other anti-Biden candidates received over 42,000 votes. With a protest vote this large it is unlikely Biden can win Michigan in the general election. If Democrats lose Michigan, they probably lose the election.

Not enough is being done by the government to deal with Long Covid. This includes more research on treatments. It should also include preventing infections which lead to Long Covid rather than the current ineffective Vax-and-Relax, let-it-rip policy.
