iWeb, Ubisoft and Red Hat alumni doing bare metal and clouds, Dev/Ops, SRE, CI/CD, release engineering and everything in between.

Open source enthusiast and contributor to projects like OpenStack, Ansible, Fedora and CentOS.

I'm concerned about privacy in the age of internet that my kids and I will grow up in.

I have opinions on things but I'd rather discuss them with you over a drink rather than on a public platform. Sorry :)

I share news, discussions and stuff I find interesting.

@vwbusguy trained from Galaxy amongst other things with an opt out policy :(

rfc2549,
@rfc2549@fosstodon.org avatar

@vwbusguy @maxamillion I'm well aware of the legal aspect and I'm sure lawyers have done their job.

It doesn't take away from the fact that lots of people uploaded their stuff to galaxy in the spirit of open source. Then some years later people decided it was implied that everyone that didn't opt out agreed to have their stuff slurped into a LLM model.

I am salty about GitHub doing the same thing, even if it is legal.

It should be opt-in. Always. Like telemetry on Fedora or whatever.

rfc2549,
@rfc2549@fosstodon.org avatar

@vwbusguy @maxamillion I respect the effort to make it open source and I appreciate the difference.

What I am still salty about is it being opt out instead of opt in, even if it's legal.

We know that if it would be opt-in -- if you expressly asked projects whether they would agree to be included, the volume of data would not be the same.

I mentioned telemetry as an example, it has the same "issue": given the choice, people would rather not being tracked.

It can be legal, though ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@rfc2549@fosstodon.org avatar

@vwbusguy @maxamillion my stance is nuanced and I don't want you to think I am singling out Red Hat/IBM over this, let's have a beverage of your choice and chat about it one day :)

@rfc2549@fosstodon.org avatar

@vwbusguy @maxamillion do you know if it'll be recorded ? I'd love to to watch.

    @jpmens is the cloud backup/sync optional ? I understand the convenience but I'd much rather not use that from a security perspective for something as critical as 2FA.

    @leogallego @jpmens @ansible @cfgmgmtcamp Leo's links are good for the Ansible track. My talk was in the monitoring track and that room wasn't recorded so there might be others in similar situations.

    @richardfontana I like @hedgedoc which is an open source fork of hackmd.

    Allows for live collaboration on slides in markdown and "renders" in reveal.js for presenting.

    Friends of Mastodon, or ?
    Why ?

    I am aware of the difference between the two and why Forgejo exists but I'm interested in your opinion.

    Thanks !

    @rfc2549@fosstodon.org avatar

    I don't typically chat about work on Mastodon but I'm starting a new job tomorrow and it's not a prestigious or glamorous role in a huge tech company.

    Instead, I'm excited to use and share my experience with a local hosting company to set them on the right track with the right tools, processes and infrastructure.

    I'll also get to do some open source in the lands of OpenStack and Ansible once again !

    No more Azure, thank you.
