Hello fellow academic researchers, I am having a discussion with a sociologist about whether and to what degree a social science degree should and can include courses on history and historical methodology. To make my case, which should be based on existing research and researchers, I am looking for sociologists and political scientists, who have either worked historically or have thought about how and why history should be part of social science thinking.

@sonjdol @histodons @politicalscience @sociology More as an example rather than a theory, and it’s a bit eclectic, but the French political scientist Jean-Francois Bayart has worked a lot with historians and recently published a historical sociology of the state (unfortunately only in French), „L‘énergie de l‘état“

Linke, Feministinnen, Demokratinnen, die den Umgang mit den Mädchenprojekten des FRIEDA Frauenzentrums richtig finden, weil die oder einige der Leiter*innen als "pro-palästinensisch" beobachtet wurden, sollten sich klarmachen, dass ein derart autoritärer Umgang irgendwann auch andere trifft, wenn dazu geschwiegen wird.

@anneroth finds insgesamt einigermassen erschreckend, welchen Maßnahmen und Aktionen Linke zustimmen, wenn sie denken, es geht gegen die Richtigen. Und das gilt hier genauso für diejenigen, die den 7.10. als "Befreiung" feiern, wie für die, die noch die autoritärsten Maßnahmen beklatschen.

There are of course a lot of specific things to hate about capitalism but there’s no one I loathe more than the people who came up with the idea to remove benches from public spaces.

Imagine pitching this: „hey how about we torture people, especially the elderly, non ablebodied, kids and their families by making it impossible for them to exist in a public space so we can force them to consume consume consume! Let’s empty out cities of all those pesky people who live in them so they only exist as economic units!“

Einer der wichtigsten Résistancekämpfer, der armenischstämmige Kommunist und Dichter Missak Manouchian, wird in den Panthéon umgebettet, eine große Würdigung. Die von ihm angeleitete „Gruppe Manouchian“ verübte zahlreiche Anschläge gegen die Nazi-Besatzer. Nach ihrer Verhaftung durch den Geheimdienst des kollaborationistischen Vichy-Regimes wurden er und 22 weitere Mitglieder von den Nazis 1944 hingerichtet.

Macron lud Marine Le Pen und weitere Mitglieder ihrer Partei, die „Erben von Vichy“, zum Festakt ein (wohl weil er provozieren wollte, dass sie sich die öffentliche Blöße geben müssten, abzulehnen), aber nicht die noch überlebenden Résistancekämpfer des FTP/MOI, der Partisanenorganistion, der Manouchian angehörte.

Tweet des linken Abgeordneten (LFI) Hadrien Clouet (übersetzt aus dem Französischen): „Unter der Unterschrift von Léon Landini präzisieren die ehemaligen Widerstandskämpfer des FTP/MOI, dass Macron es abgelehnt hat, sie zur Pantheonisierung von Missak Manouchian zu verleihen! Kein Platz für die überlebenden Widerstandskämpfer. Platz für die Erben der Nazis.“

Half thinking of starting an hashtag here, about the dire, dire state of UK (global?) higher education. Sharing nuggets of senior management decisions, neoliberal language, and overall slow collapse.

Won’t work of course because most of us can’t risk honesty, but honestly: the everyday reality of what is happening deserves recording in all its depressing and damning detail.

@CGdoppelpunkt @histodons @istuetzle IIRC wurden sets zum Selberbauen verkauft. Die Arbeiter-Radio-Bewegung bestand zu Anfang vor allem aus Bastlern, die sich gegenseitig halfen, Geräte selber zu bauen, die sich Arbeiter natürlich zunächst nicht leisten konnten

Sehr interessanter Artikel über Bluesky, der allerdings meine Skepsis nicht beseitigt. Es bleibt eine For-Profit-Firma und es ist völlig unklar wie das ATP Protokoll genutzt werden soll. Die Idee scheint eher zu sein, von Mastodon bereits erprobte Technik zu nutzen, um Meta ein eigenes Monopol entgegenzustellen und es als nutzerfreundlicher zu verkaufen.

For several reasons (don’t @ me) I still have accounts on those other sites (winding down) and it’s continuously baffling to me that people I consider politically and academically smart continue to complain about (of the , of Google, of Chrome) but can’t be arsed to use the alternatives that are already in place. What is this phenomenon? Even those fleeing the go to - and talk about how it will very probably go down the same route. But is „unusable“, say the super communist critics of on the central website of the very industry they complain about

zwar nicht mehr ganz , aber auf einem neuen Account. Ich bin Historiker mit Spezialisierung auf der s und lebe und arbeite zur Zeit in Paris. Nebenher schreibe ich für deutsche Zeitungen, v.a. @analysekritik, zu den Themen die mich so interessieren: marxistische Theorie aus dem globalen Süden, Geschichte Afrikas und der „Dritten Welt“, Imperialismus und Rassismus.
