As in many other areas in Europe, it was really pouring down here in the mountains today and I wasn't sure if I should venture out 🌧️🌧️🌧️ But in the end I took advantage of a brief rain-free slot and ran my usual 15km/600m EG

The small streams in the forest have a lot more water than normal and even my Salomon GoreTex shoes were completely wet by the end. But it was absolutely perfect for #running at around 10°C

How do you run in +30°C? (86°F). 1500ml (half a gallon) seem to be not enough.

riaschissl,
@riaschissl@noc.social avatar

@rolle 1.5l for what distance? In doubt, always carry more water than you think. In terms of weight, it doesn't really matter if you carry 1 or 2 liters with you, but it makes a huge difference for your body if you get dehydrated while doing sports.

The general rule of thumb for running is to add 10°C and then ask yourself how much water you'd carry.

    I just wasted about 2 hours of my time trying to figure out why a server would only connect at 100Mbit instead of the expected 1Gbit.

    I had all sorts of ideas, NIC, driver, driver settings, switch related ... and in the end, I almost don't dare to say it, it turned out to be a cabling problem ... you know, there's a tiny little difference between a Cat5 and a Cat5e cable ...

    Who the heck still has Cat5 patch cables lying around?!! ... me, for example 😱 but one less now!!

    My morning run today, before it started pouring down 🌦️

    Not the fastest pace for 16km and +600m EG, but it's only Tuesday and I didn't want to push me too hard today. Apart from the it's just amazing how nature almost seems to explode with life. Spring time at it's best in the mountains around where I live.

    Privacy is dead, and all of your data, including medical information, is constantly being sold to the highest bidder. This is a terrible situation, and there should be strict regulations for those who are breaking the law. Source https://www.threads.net/@thebrianpenny/post/C6y2ckfxaDj/

    @nixCraft Maybe I'm too old for that, but the very idea of doing online mental health counseling is baffling to me. And trusting a purely commercial company with my most private thoughts and feelings would never occur to me.

    Of course, times are changing, along with personal risk assessments, but I wonder where people's personal responsibility comes in.

    Today I ran the 25km distance at the and was quite satisfied overall. Last yr I found it very challenging due to the heat at the time, but today it was great with 1300 runners of the same distance.

    The 800m of elev gain were manageable, and at the next event in August I will try to break the 1800m

    And I noticed that as a 52yo runner, I've already been classified as a senior ... that escalated quickly ...

    Recovery day, no today!

    All because I'll be running a 25km/800m elev. gain HM at the Alpine Festival on Sat. Last year I ran the same event and that wasn't so good because the weather was very hot and I started off too fast, and by the end the hammer was about to knock me down.

    But this year it should be better, or quite the opposite, as snow is expected to get close to the max elev of the course.

    April is ... April.

    My 16km today was a little bit special. It was cold, about 4°C and the weather gods were undecided what to do with the day. After I had been running for about half an hour, it started to snow lightly. But the weather gods apparently weren't having enough fun with it and soon it started to snow really heavily.

    By now there must already be 20cm of snow ...

    A short 15km run in the forest with about 600m elevation gain and really beautiful spring weather.

    I wasn't quite as fast today because I wanted to try out a new toy: a Hover X1 drone with absolutely foolproof flight modes, such as FollowMe and DollyTrack. A nice little thing that's so light and small that it fits in a trouser pocket and, of course, in my running vest. Setup done in less than a minute, love it!

    @running

    a short video showing myself running on a trail in the woods, recorded by a drone that followed me automatically. I run on an uphill path that is surrounded by huge trees and partially enclosed by a fence.

    riaschissl,
    @riaschissl@noc.social avatar

    @rmoff @running yes and no 😎

    It can follow you from behind (FollowMe) or fly in front of you (DollyTrack), but it has no collision sensors. So if you're on a really narrow path, it might collide with an obstacle like a tree. But I've tried it a few times and it works amazingly well, like in the (scaled down) video I posted. The drone itself is well protected, i.e. it has already survived a few such collisions.

    Loved watching Christiane Amanpour growing up. But she got this all wrong. Brutal erasure to say that there are no independent journos in Gaza (because 🇵🇸 journalists apparently can't be independent).

    The Middle East Eye (this clip is their's btw) & Al Jazeera have award winning teams in Gaza composed of locals closer to the story than any westerner could be. But go ahead & waltz into Gaza, claim to be the eyes/ears of the world while totally lost without the Palestinian fixers flanking you.

    riaschissl,
    @riaschissl@noc.social avatar

    @ZekuZelalem Gaza is a war zone and I doubt that we will get anything close to the truth out of it by any journalist, local, African, European, Asian or whatever.

    The undeniable facts are that lots and lots of innocent people have been and are being killed as a direct result of what has happened on Oct, 7th.

    Apart from that, I agree that Christiane Amanpour
    lamenting about "western journalists" not being able to go to Gaza is just plain weird.

    I'm really fed up with MS Teams.

    In the past, I've used Matrix/element, and I can't say how many times better it worked. About 1.5 years ago, we decided migrate to MS 365 and I find it a pita.

    Does anybody have a clue about the status of Teams<->Matrix integration? I remember, there were numerous attempts to do this using a bridge/puppet, but at least AFAIK that didn't work too well.

    What is the status of this? Any insights appreciated 😎

    An early morning run before the predicted storm breaks out with speeds of more than 100 km/h.

    And just in time for the holidays, a bit of a headache and a slight sore throat did not exactly contribute to my enjoyment.

    But apart from that, it was a really nice 15 km run in beautiful spring weather. My keeps telling me that my hill endurance keeps improving, so the regular almost 600m elevation gain seem to be paying off

    Hello trailrunners!
    Is there a rule of tumb how much vertical meters one should train for a specific event?
    I am looking for a way to make it measurable in my training metrics.
    Thanks!

    riaschissl,
    @riaschissl@noc.social avatar

    @Johan_Barelds I only know the other way round: 100m in the vertical are about 1km in the flat. But this is really very much a rule of thumb, because uphill is not only about the total ascent but also how steep it is, and of course where you run. Running uphill a paved road is very different from running up a mountain trail.

    Maybe someone from @running has a better idea, so I'm adding them to this thread.

    A 13km #trailRun late Sunday afternoon in almost spring-like conditions at around 10°C.

    My plan is to increase my regular #running distance from 10km/300m elevation gain to around 15km/500m elevation gain and run a pure fun HM at least once a month. This should help me prepare for the 35km/1800m #trailRunning event I intend to participate in May.

    It's hard to describe how much I love in winter!

    Today is a particularly beautiful day and there's simply no better place to be than outside, like on my morning 12km run at about -10°C. Winter magic doing its wonders ❄️

    in the forest is now a little adventure, because it's inevitable to turn into a snowman sooner or later⛄ And no chance of running fast, because sooner or later you get stuck in deep snow.

    My fellow partners in crime aka esteemed colleagues probably already know about this event, but I've just read about it for the first time.

    A marathon in (or the ) would be a tempting place ... if it weren't for the hefty price tag, which ranges from USD 21,000 to EUR 55,000 depending on the location and date 😱

    @WTL @rotnroll666 @running @moelholm yes, of course, when you consider what it takes to get there, survive there, run there and finally return to civilization, the environmental impact is hard to justify.
