I just want a search engine that works. I have zero need for a godawful "AI" hallucinating mansplainer in my results. Just… no.

Time to move off of DDG. What else is out there?

Edit: yes, it seems to be for real:

HUMANITY ALWAYS GRAVITATE TOWARDS TRUTH AND COMMON SENSE.

That's why the propaganda is non stop. If it ever were to ease up people would just come to their senses again.

That's why internet 1.0 was great for humanity. People left radio and TV and went for whatever they liked on Internet, without political censorship.

Now social media have become tools for propaganda with sick globalists in total control.

And basic search engines have become nearly useless due to the same agenda.

Part of my Home Lab journey is setting up some alerts / dashboards to let me know the health of my servers at a glance.

This led me to the concept of custom start pages for your browser, like these. Seems to be almost an art form! (or a way to waste time fiddling, or both)

Is there a favorite among devs? A different one for Home Labbers? What do you like for personal use? Who knew?!

So, this surveillance capitalism thing is totally out of hand. Today @protonmail had a great explainer (https://mastodon.social/@protonmail/111165171600485248) on the mind bending evil Google is up to with it's new "privacy features". But pretty much every tech company is now in the business of profiling you and monetizing your tidbits.

What can you do? A lot as it turns out, but if you just want ONE EASY THING that you can do today, SWITCH TO FIREFOX (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) and make DuckDuckGo your default search engine.

This may be obvious, but I recently started routinely adding "-youtube" to google searches. This eliminates most pages with links to garbage YouTube-monetized videos that try to attract people looking for basic instructions on how to do simple things. Greatly improves the quality of search results.

markhughes,
@markhughes@mastodon.social avatar

@mattblaze I've long stopped using because it is no longer a but an ad serving privacy hazard.

I still use keyword filters (eg with ), always have, but long to be able to have a standard set that always apply and to be able to add domains and keywords to this with a right click on the results.

Yet nobody has made this AFAIK 🤔

Fortgeschrittene Anwender nutzen/hosten SearXNG. Für Kinder eignet sich Blinde Kuh.

https://www.kuketz-blog.de/empfehlungsecke/#suchmaschine

Optimus,

There are people that work for both Startpage & StartMail, resources are shared between the two companies since they were founded by the same people, and there are multiple links to on the website.
