According to the lawsuit that X is funding, this is one of the political opinions expressed by the X user that was posted and allegedly resulted in them getting fired from their job

@johnefrancis @taylorlorenz Missouri is an “at-will” employment state, so the lawsuit may not get very far.

Imagination-range 12.5 day cloud cover forecast for the eclipse is looking not too good for #ontario

Do you short sell eclipse glasses to a sucker now, or do you buy up call options hoping the forecast will improve?

@johnefrancis Good. We can all stare at the sun through the cloud cover.

I discovered quite by accident right now that my bike picks up enough of an electrical charge to shock me (my inner thighs) when I ride it underneath the very high tension power lines that cross over the river bike path.

I want to come back with a multimeter one day and see how much voltage there actually is between me and my bike

samloonie,
@samloonie@mstdn.ca avatar

@MLE_online Took me a while to find a measured number. This source says the e field under your power line could be near 1500 volts per metre.

@ai6yr Your link to the insurance story reminded me of this quotation attributed to Mark Twain:

"A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain. "

Having breakfast at an A&W that's close to the clinic. I see a box labeled "Tomato Ketchup" and I wonder if there's any other kind of ketchup.

Any help?

samloonie,

@BrownKnowser In the American south, "ketchup" and "gravy" can be made from a wild variety of things.

The cat found a mouse in the back door hallway and was having a fine time trying to catch it among the shoes.
To avoid a blood bath, I grabbed the cat to move him to the next room and close the door. This did not work well and was very much like trying to hang onto a tiny thunderstorm with claws.

p.s. I think the mouse is now hiding under the washing machine

samloonie,

The cats and I have caught two mice so far. The cats corner the mouse and then I drop the dog dish over the mouse.
There will probably be more, we've evicted an adult and a smaller one.

Hmm, what the heck is going on with the massively rapid blink rate of that woman? I do wonder if that was a set or Chromakey, there are zero active reflections on the counter and the lighting on the glass behind her does not match the lighting on her eyes... #random #politics

@ai6yr The picture with the microwave, coffee maker, cups and baskets of UHT milk was odd. Even UHT milk goes bad without refrigeration and there's far more there than would go with the number of cups.

Got myself locked out of the apartment, and if you do that after office hours, they want €200 to let you in again. If it can wait until the morning, they can make a key for €3. So, this is my room for the night...

samloonie,

@thor Orrrr ... You could spend the night watching the Lockpicking Lawyer on YouTube and open your apartment door yourself by morning.

Our Braun coffee maker was able to make coffee after our power failure, but entirely fried itself when my wife later tried to set the clock.

I guess its computer needed to be on a UPS, too.

(This one was a warranty replacement for one that fried its brains in a cleaning cycle that I tried to turn off.)

My bio here says "too many interests" instead of the customary list of hashtags.

As if this wasn't true, my kids keep adding new hobbies to the list.

Yesterday I was trying to get a USB Software Defined Radio to do something useful on a raspberry Pi. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I think I should have started on a device with a display.

The day before, I was out playing with a tiny quadcopter.

ai6yr, to hamradio

Hmm... need to build myself (another) standing table + ham radio rack, and just realized this might be an opportunity to use the Ikea LACK table/19 inch rack 🤔 (instead of raw lumber and building essentially same thing) -- will bolt a couple to the top of a desk, after cutting the legs down to preferred size. #hamradio #rack

samloonie,
@samloonie@mstdn.ca avatar

@ai6yr Check first to make sure the legs are solid. The tops of the Ikea LACK tables are made like hollow core doors.

samloonie,
@samloonie@mstdn.ca avatar

@ai6yr Having repaired a hollow core door, I had the second thought that the legs (if also hollow) could be cut carefully and the solid inserts at the bottoms could be picked out and glued into the shorter legs.

samloonie,
@samloonie@mstdn.ca avatar

@thor I would not recommend eating the same thing at every meal, no matter what it might be.
It's just that there is no need to get the balanced diet at every meal – we have the ability to store vitamins and nutrients to average out the supply.

@StillIRise1963 My mother-in-law was grocery shopping on the Saturday after my father-in-law died. At the cash register she found out that the bank had locked the joint bank account and her access card.

Yes, that's not how joint accounts work, but imagine trying to get this fixed with a cart full of groceries.

Everyone should have a bank account and credit cards in their own name.

News items in my feed usually come with a teaser picture. Sometimes the picture provides useful context, more often it is totally useless like this one, a picture of some guy.

The headline has four nouns "FBI dismantles Ubiquiti Router Botnet Controlled by Russian Cyberspies"

I'm left wondering, because the article never says, is the guy

a) the author of the article
b) an FBI agent
c) a Russian bot
d) a Ubiquiti router, or
e) a Russian Cyberspy ?
