Hey, wouldn't it be something if states with laws against making death threats, particularly against certain marginalized groups, actually bothered to enforce them?

A lot of the crap going on over on Threads with regards to wanting to unalive queer people would be shut down overnight.

So Fediverse people are replying to @potus on the Threads account. (eg. https://www.threads.net/@potus/post/C5R2tfZLYXD ) "He" can't see those replies because Threads doesn't allow them through, but we can reply to ourselves on the Fediverse side. It's weird.

Questions:

  1. If I wanted to send a link to someone (including the OP/POTUS) so they could see that Fediverse reply stream what link would I send? I guess it would depend on who replied from what server and if they are public? (eg. https://mstdn.party/@seibelsays/112204482012631501)

  2. I guess a case can now be made to Threads management @mosseri that one way federation is limiting the freedom of expression of citizens to be heard by their politicians? lol. Or maybe you don't need to go that Musk-ian route. You can just say it's really weird to be able to see and reply to someone on Threads but thise replies can't be seen by the Threads user. Like really, how stupid. 😝

  3. I may create a Threads account specifically to advocate for Federation asap , and to encourage people to leave Threads. 😈 Especially while the petition is on.

Anyway, I see it as inevitable now that Threads fully federates and becomes interoperable with and the .

As a proponent of the , no matter my opinion of Meta, this is what the Open Social Web must be, a mix of commercial and non conmmercial, evil and not evil, blocked and not blocked.

The mix will mirror the wider Internet and society and that is far far better than the monopolistic, closed, Social Media behemoths we have had in the previous era.

That's why Federation of is good, Very good.

@chris Hopefully, they do add two-way communication as well as add places like the UK to federate as I know that me and many people in the UK can't fedirate our accounts, what sucks as I would love to just follow them from the Sharkey instance I'm using instead of Threads itself.

I try to use threads to promote the Fediverse but it seems like no one listens.

@9to5mac There's a reason I much prefer to purchase digital music and put it on a backup USB and Streaming does not help that.

If you only follow a handful of people on Threads, then the algorithm will find generic & likely irrelevant posts to fill your feed. To see better content, you actually have to spend a few moments following people you like and engaging in Threads on topics you care about.

@JasonPerseus My instance fedirates with Threads. It runs a version of Sharkey (a Misskey fork) but I believe you may have to message the admin for an invitation code as I believe it's still invite only.

Also Wetdry.world is a great Mastodon instance that allows you to see threads posts.

@frog_reborn @6G It might be something to do with Security and compatibility with the Fediverse is why Mastodon has like an Update within 2 years policy but I haven't went in depth with reading the Licence for Mastodon as much prefer Sharkey myself.

@chasten.buttigieg please consider joining the @whitehouse and @potus by enabling the one-click federation option on your threads account. The fediverse is home to many LGBTQIA+ individuals that have found a safe online home there. In fact, much of the fediverse was built by the same individuals. Give them the opportunity to follow you without leaving that space. ✌🏳‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

@box464 The Opt in could bring the Fediverse to the front of people well also making it so only people that care about the Fediverse user base (what is mainly LGBTQIA+ people and allys from my experience)

It would be good to have more well produced / visually stunning Fediverse applications like Misskey & Sharkey. Hopefully the Fediverse upgrades there looks in the future as some people like visuals and won't even try out a platform without nice looks.

@6G From what I have seen and heard it seems like not only is META not block trans misinformation & hatred on their platforms (not just threads) but they also seem to be still trying to collect a lot of data what is not the point of the Fediverse.

@dogzilla @6G @paninid @atomicpoet I agree, The reason I enjoy the fediverse is that I wouldn't be able to communicate with anyone I really feel I want to, If there's something I don't think should be here I could report to the admin if it's illegal / unwanted for majority of people but if it's more personal, I'll just block it myself.

Hopefully, one day I work out how to run my own Instance of Sharkey to run it the way I would.

Did you know on Sharkey you can't reverse a Migration...

If I wanted to move back to a server I was on previously I would have to delete the account and reapply for access due to it being Invite only.
