Regardless of what happens in the keynote today with calculators, I wanted to say that I’ve been dealing with a serious family health crisis for the last three months, and I’ve spent a lot of that time around hospitals.

So, please don’t add to my stresses today by tagging me in a million things about getting Sherlocked because, genuinely, even if Apple destroys my entire business today, it’s not going to be my biggest concern.

@daringfireball I've been following and admiring your work for over a decade, but lately, you've been changing in a way that's hard for me to recognize or be okay with. I noticed a shift around 2021/22.
I was thrilled to support you by paying for the Dithering when you first started, but a few months ago, I just couldn't renew it. It's really disappointing that it's come to this, but your recent post is the final straw for me. My stance against genocides outweighs everything else. Goodbye, John.

I will not make an account on Threads because I did not move away from Twitter to hug Facebook.

But hey, the power of the Fediverse is being distributed, and every instance can make their own decisions if they want to federate with Thr or not.

Nonsense; Apple's Messages app already has an unencrypted pathway — using SMS. And unencrypted RCS, as of next year. A bridge to a competing service could also be unencrypted in the same form. If you really need to message somebody not using an encrypted service, you should get a warning in the app, but it should still be possible. It will be possible, and unencrypted, if other services interoperate with RCS directly

@gruber @thomholwerda @stroughtonsmith Matter, the smart home “14th competing standard” developed with heavy Apple involvement works pretty well for smart devices - and by extension for users. I don’t see a reason why a bunch of 1+ TN dollar companies couldn’t work out “Matter for messaging” when forced to.
