Funny story: I checked some of mine on Mac OS 8 lately and the JavaScript errors from Google stuff made them unusable. TODO: remove this crap.

Nothing can convince you more that capitalism is a cancer than playing with a lovely iPod touch (2012) and trying to get apps a decade later.

Mother-Nature-Apple doesn’t care to filter for you apps that still run on iOS9. You just try the one you remember until one says it offers an old version.

Most old apps I had were either removed from sale or turned into a subscription requiring a newer device. Nothing can last forever. This whole system rots from the inside.

Gambá (Brazilian marsupial) makes unexpected noise while stealing cat food. Marx 🐱 arrives and like in a movie the Gambá freezes and moves back slowly and goes into hiding.

I keep forgetting the name but aria2 is just great when you want to download a torrent on a server. One parameter (magnet or torrent file) and it starts downloading.

I long for a time where you could search for a shell command on Google and the results wouldn’t be half AI spam.

It looks legit on first glance but then you see brew commands mixed up with apt commands. Oh the hatred.

An idea (for a motivated person): make a website with #retroComputing / #retrogaming news except with a given year offset. If you chose 30 years, today you’d see the news from April 14, 1993. With excerpts from old mags on archive.org about say Starfox on the SNES or some Amiga 1200 app. Could be a gopher or Gemini site too.

Installing browsers on a :rpi: Pi 3 running #NetBSD

• NetSurf 5Mb
• Firefox & dependencies : 300 Mb

And don’t get me started on launch times nowadays as a quad core CPU at 1.2 GHz is “slow” and “low end”.

Yes I am aware NetSurf cannot display most modern websites. I am not blaming Firefox. I blame the websites.

What’s a good mail app for #Linux #Desktop nowadays that allows searching / browsing of hundreds of attachments stored as plain files ? I plan to sync via IMAP about 20 years of mailboxes (around 20 GB total).

I already use mbsync + aerc to backup this on a Pi but I want a second copy on another machine with a GUI.
