A curious and thorough code reviewer is not a formality or a burden but a vital and valuable part of the development process.

They are a second set of eyes, often who know nothing about the code. They can help catch design flaws and improve outcomes. They see bugs. They identify assumptions.

Forgoing code review, even in early stages, is dangerous.

Oauth is a remarkable and remarkably tough thing. Getting it right requires expertise and getting it wrong is easy. I’ve been using it now for a while and I still learn new things about it every day.

Ordered pizzas and scheduled the order for 5pm. DoorDash is being used by the pizza place instead of their own drivers. I started getting messages that they are going to pick it up way early and now there’s an endless cycle of dashers driving there to pick it up but the pizzas aren’t ready so they bail and another dasher gets the order and goes to pick up. It’s on driver number 5 or 6 now. Wow that’s insanity :( I feel so bad for the dashers stolen wages here by the DoorDash order system bug.

Spent the morning writing code to test a microservices architecture. Wondering at what point testing relationships between services becomes cumbersome.

@alessandrolai right now we have a mockserver which mocks our api endpoints. It’s intended to test the happy and not-so-happy paths.

But, that gives us TWO versions of all our services: one that’s real and one that’s mocked.

Thinking about writing a set of smoke tests to test against the staging env every time we get ready to deploy in production. Not sure yet.

With the recent waves of layoffs I can’t help but wonder if running independent businesses is the right decision for many tech types.

It’s not that technology is less valuable.

It’s that companies want to pad their profits with layoffs.

Starting your own thing and owning your own product with multiple customers is a good way to build stability. It’s slow but it’s worth it.
