Took a big risk once: we gave our big v2.0 away for free to all Halide v1 users, hoping it’d make our users happy.

We also gave users 2 more years of updates on top of that —and made sure Halide aways kept working, with an optional paid upgrade for new features.

In return, we get these reviews. This stuff is so disheartening.

We’re on the look for a new family car and I’ve been pleasantly impressed with the BMW X5/X6. 2023 models have nice climate controls: physical switches and a little screen showing mode, degrees, etc

Then I drove the new 2024 model. And got this absolute mess:

I usually love @verge but this is a bad take. Of course Apple used professional lighting and equipment when taking the video. That doesn't at all diminish the result or achievement here.

A few months on, I have to regrettably say the Vision Pro is kind of useless to me.

I really wanted it to be more like my Mac or iPhone, but it’s very much like the iPad: A fantastic device conceptually, but I never really find myself reaching for it.

Moving into a new home Dec 1 — which means some new purchases for us: we finally bought our dream rug and... a robot vacuum?

There’s subtle little-but-big paradigm shifts in the user interface for Vision Pro that make me pause and smile.

Take password entry. The password never turns into ••• dots — you can see every letter or number of a passcode you enter, because… only you can see it.

iOS disk space management continues to absolutely confound me. My iPhone lies about having 250 GB of ‘free’ space on-device, but plugged in shows only a fraction of that. And it complains about storage nonstop.

Remember those ‘leaked color matched iPhone cables’ from earlier this year? I’d bet the event Oct 30 has an iMac 24’ update with M2, USB-C keyboard, mouse and trackpad peripherals.

But there’s also that black cable. My money is on an M2 Pro / Max iMac Pro or Large iMac.
