@aram@globalvoices what pretending that photo was intentionally antisemitic is willful misinformation, since this was reported on 10 years ago. Whether or not you like his music, the guy is earnest and not a bigot
@aram@globalvoices it’s one thing to make an assumption and be concerned, it’s another thing to blow off any information that conflicts with your preferred assumptions. Macklemore is not an antisemite and spreading bizarre misinfo to the contrary does not help keep Jews or anyone safe
just to expand on Arendt's whole banality of evil thing: this entire climate crisis, gaza genocide and a great deal of past and modern white supremacy and colonizer bullshit coasts on social processes made possible by careerism and respectability politics. the road to right now has been so polite, so professional
Injustice proceeds via long timelines of thousands of bureaucratic acts, protected by careerists who are personally invested in being unable to see anything nefarious about any of it, and of course far more concerned with not appearing as a dreaded conspiracy theorist than they are with stopping actual conspiracies
@inquiline im just like at what point in this poly crisis will folks start to assume that those in power may actually be doing bad things on purpose and also coordinating them with one another — apparently never! apparently it will always all be random and we will always all be insane for suspecting otherwise
if evil is operationalized by all of us putting our heads down and doing our jobs, than it is a distraction to focus on a particular political figure or party or even group of (non)voters as The Problem. the problem is that we are all caught up in a very tangled web and it takes a lot of courage -and mutual aid- to break free & practice solidarity with the vulnerable, rather than the powerful
People shaming others to vote and saying we mustn't say anything bad about Biden/DNC makes more sense when they reveal that they think the problem is the voters, not the very, very rigged system we are forced to submit to
@inquiline I know I’m Sarah Kendzior pilled right now cuz I’m listening to her book but she really names institutionalism a lot and I think that explains so much here — if you believe that change hinges on the good experts being in governmental office than all of this really does come down to voting (spoiler the institutions haven’t and won’t save us)
@EBecker I mean it’s always been a head scratcher that we were asked to simply overlook the fact that that particular lab just so happened to be operating in that particular city in that particular time
There was a wave of “It’s actually a 3-3-3 Court!” takes in 2021, when the rightwing supermajority decided it was best to wait another term before going full berserk on democracy and the modern state. That was just regular dumb.
Resurrecting them now is next-level bizarre. Remarkable stuff.
