A lovely story about an acclaimed 89-year-old photographer, David Hurn, whose name I’d never heard but whose work I've certainly seen — including a famous Sean Connery / James Bond poster.

“I must be one of the few people that's played Monopoly with The Beatles.”

“I've become the village photographer, so I cover little Johnny's birthday party and this and that and I do it very seriously, as though I was working for Life magazine, and I love doing that.”

Tennessee, really showing off those toe beans. You might notice a lack of floof on one part of his tummy; they had to remove some to do his ultrasound back a week and a half ago.

Do you drink raw milk? You probably don't want to do that right now. @HelenBranswell has some quotes from experts who all sound horrified at the prospect of anyone drinking that milk.

I've written enough Postcards to Voters — I'm writing 10 right now for a Supreme Court election in Georgia — that I need to buy more postcards.

We have lots of artists here; does anyone sell postcards? I'm looking to buy about 100 with possible re-orders. The art must be nonpolitical and something that will make people want to read the cards. Pictures of animals, flowers, landscapes and such are all good. (My current ones have a bird.)

As memories of my years on Twitter fade, I'm reflecting:

What I lost as Twitter spiraled downward and I left: A few cool people and some communities, including folks doing good legal explainers.

Some of what I gained on Mastodon: So many cat and bird photos! Much more coverage of climate change. New cool people!

And on Twitter I never saw before-and-now photos from trans women, and posts by furries.

If I were creating an AI safety board it would not include the people listed here, including Sam Altman and the CEOs of Alphabet, Amazon Web Services, Delta Airlines, IBM, Adobe, etc. They're just going to come up with "answers" that benefit their businesses.

Where are the researchers like Timnet Gebru? The people used to thinking about safety and unintended harms across a range of technologies?

The good thing about a 6:30 am routine mammogram appointment, the first one of the day: You don’t need to worry about other unmasked patients because there are no other patients. (The medical staff members are all masked.)

The bad thing: That’s awfully early when you aren’t a morning person.

Now back home, in bed, ready to nap.

If you want to know what’s going on with H5N1 bird flu and dairy cattle, you’ll want to follow @HelenBranswell

Some of her recent reporting:
"Osterholm said that the Covid pandemic should have taught government officials that transparency and clear communications are key to successful management of outbreaks. 'That to me is being missed here. And I can’t for the life of me understand why,' he said."
