The team responsible for the FaceTime app on tvOS needs a VERY stern talking-to. Just for starters, take a look at the menu that appears when trying to start a call with a person.

Now imagine if it actually showed the emails or phone numbers for any of these choices. But no, you just have to guess! It’s on a giant TV screen! There’s plenty of room! It is MADDENING!

If an audio-only podcast is posted to YouTube, and it contains host-read ads in explicitly declared ad breaks, should that video have the “includes paid promotion” setting enabled?

Google’s help docs have only left me more confused. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/10588440?hl=en

(Also, I want to know the actual answer from experienced YouTubers, regardless of what the docs say.)

I've been tracking this one down for a few days. Ever since I updated to macOS 13.3, window dragging sometimes looks like this.

It happens with any window in any app. It stops when I hide some(?) other windows. Not sure why and which windows, but I'm working on it…

In classic Mac OS, I used to use a utility that would comb through all of memory (no memory protection!) looking for strings. I used it to recover text from unsaved documents after an application crashed, or if I accidentally hit the wrong button in a dialog, etc.

This kind of thing is harder to do on modern systems, but I’m glad to see people are still out there doing it. (But, yeah, don’t type large amounts to of text into web browsers…)

@paul What API does Ivory for Mac use to set custom app icons? I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out if my app can detect and display Ivory's custom icon when Ivory is running. Both NSWorkspace's icon(forFile:…) method and NSRunningApplication’s .icon property just return the standard icon, regardless of the custom icon set in Ivory's settings.

What the heck was up with the brightness on the most recent episode of Ted Lasso? (S3E11) In scenes showing two people conversing, the shots showing person A looked fine, and the shots showing person B looked incredibly dim, even though both people were standing under full-brightness indoor lights in the same room just feet from each other. It was consistent through multiple shots in a scene. It's like some shots had bad HDR metadata or something?
