Pet peeve of the day: all the people talking about how ChatGPT is not “conscious” and how it does not “understand” what it is saying, but just putting likely-sounding words together into likely-sounding sentences.

Extra bonus points for using an example of a math problem as a way to show how these AI chat-bots talk about things they don’t really understand.

The irony. The lack of self-awareness. It burns.

Ну раз сегодня массовая миграция русскоязычных в Мастодон (если это не так, во всём виноват Алексей @skobkin, который бустит первые посты людей :)), представлюсь снова и по-русски.
Меня зовут Андрей, я разработчик и гик из Украины. Сейчас живу с женой в Мангейме, в Германии. Люблю читать, в основном фантастику и фэнтези всех жанров и научпоп; люблю слушать очень разную музыку, особый интерес питаю к традиционной этнической музыке всех народов мира и классической/академической музыке где-то до начала XX века плюс современный минимализм. Имею жёсткую проукраинскую, проамериканскую и проевропейскую позицию. В свободное время (которого сейчас почти нет) изучаю иностранные языки, так как по образованию я лингвист-переводчик. Не вижу с рождения, хотя обычно не заостряю на этом внимания. Эксперт по адаптивным технологиям и доступности технических решений для незрячих. От себя тоже поприветствую всех пришедших и дам несколько советов.

✅ Заполните профиль и поставьте аватарку. Неплохой идеей будет указать там ваши увлечения или вид деятельности.
✅ Напишите что-нибудь: приветствие, пост о себе (тут используют тег #introduction)
✅ Листайте ваши локальные и глобальные ленты, и подписывайтесь на тех, кто интересен - тут нет алгоритма, который будет подсовывать вам контент. Набрать свою ленту нужно будет самостоятельно. Также возможно вам будет полезно зайти в настройки и установить языки контента, которые вы хотите видеть в ленте.
✅ Общайтесь с людьми.
✅ Не бросайте как только Twitter опять даст заднюю - дайте свободным соцсетям шанс, они могут вас удивить.

Эти простые советы могут помочь вам не заскучать и заинтересовать других людей подписаться на вас.

I saw a bunch of news from Western media about it and it looked quite strange from time to time.

But even from the inside of Russia it looks very strange. And I don't mean government media. I mean more independent sources some of which are banned here.

Latest news says that everything is canceled and they're returning back 🤷‍♂️

So I can add my "what was that" to your "what's going on".

Looks interesting. But I'm a bit worried how it divides PCI-e lanes between devices.
Because it says that it's 8x. AFAIR one SSD needs at least 4x and 10 Gbit ethernet controller also needs 4x.
Seems like it multiplexes the throughput. And I'm not sure how well it'll perform in cases when both SSD and network are loaded (like copying from the disk to NAS or any other scenario).

Seems like I need to struggle with Firefox for some time at least.

Ну, кстати, звук я обозревать не буду.
Без оборудования это абсолютно бессмысленное дело - не хочу вещать про цыкающие верха и бархатистые басы. Надо идти в магазин и слушать просто. Либо идти на какой-нибудь reference-audio-analyzer.pro и там смотреть.

Тем более старые наушники у меня сейчас в велюровых амбушюрах, а новые в родных из кожзама - там и обхват ушей разный, и поглощение частот.

А вот чем наушники стали лучше - есть что рассказать. Благо я уже успел в первой версии даже кое-что починить и во второй версии этот недостаток тоже был исправлен.

Everyone seems to admire , but now I saw a repost from a scam/troll account disguised as Microsoft. they also put a "Verified" badge near their name. That's why a very small number of official corporations' and celebrities' accounts will migrate to Fediverse, in my opinion. needs either a verification system or at least a notion of verified instances, love it or hate it.

If you're talking about brands.town, then it's an entire instance dedicated for parody accounts. They're not verified. Verification requires official website to have a link back to fedi account. Like my site in the profile.
Any check signs are just emoji in the name 🤷

@menelion Yeah. Thats another benefit of the Fedi. Such companies know that they're in control of their social media instance.
Not saying that there no problems or challenges coming with that too.

I decided to play around with the AT Protocol, so I put together a very rough & very early library to play around with the concepts.

If you're interested, check it out, & I'd love to have others contribute to round it out and make it full-featured.

Ultimately, I’d love this library to be a starting point for working on some / bridging.

Yeah.
I saw landrok/activitypub, but it requires Guzzle for some WebFinger stuff, so it's not very flexible.
