@zenkat @bookstodon it’s a two-parter: 1) in October, the British Library has suffered a cyber attack; most digital services have not yet recovered https://www.computerweekly.com/feature/British-Library-cyber-attack-explained-What-you-need-to-know 2) Legal Deposit is the arrangement that obliges publishers to send a copy of every publication to the British Library (and, if requested to do so, to 4 other libraries), to preserve and ensure access to future generations, in place since the 17th century. since 2013, the arrangement has been that digital “copies” suffice, even for books that are published on paper too. the “default” was agreed to be print, but that default is not enforced or necessarily adhered to. https://www.legaldeposit.org.uk

always sounds to me like so much of 90s West Coast #HipHop tracks its sound and aesthetic to Roy Ayers. e.g., Dr Dre only sampled this track once, for a Detox track, but I can't help suspecting he took much more from it for his sound.

the "my life, my life, my life" tag was true Cali staple, used by Tupac, Ice Cube, Mc Eiht ("my life, my life, my life, with a tech nine").

DJ QBert has many amazing scratches, but I am pretty sure this is my favourite, transforming James Brown's "one, two, three, ah!" to a countdown: "three - two - one". (from Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Musik)

so the problem with @vinylrecords condition codes, where “good” means definitely NOT good:

on Vinted, there are sellers who know this, and sellers who do not. so I just ordered a record that’s described as “good” and I’ll only know in a couple of days whether that means unlistenable, or fine 😅
