For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

@GossiTheDog I'm sure there's no problem with this being used in healthcare and banking environments at all. Or even in environments assisting vulnerable communities. I mean, it's not like Microsoft has had any well publicized security issues recently.

Solar panels + backup battery in Houston (solely to run your A/C) would be useful right about now. Heat Index of 95F. (this, as big chunks of the city are still out of power). Hopefully folks are finding shelter at friends/relatives/etc.

@ai6yr If you have links to affordable solutions for that, I would be grateful. Alabama's infrastructure isn't that much better. We are smaller than Houston, though, so it is easier and faster to do some repairs. But in 2011 when the April 27th storms came through, my folks went two weeks without power.

One of the local universities advertising "50 and Better" classes including courses/lectures on Frank Sinatra, 1950's swing, and "Over The Rainbow" makes me wonder why they are conflating Gen X folks with the boomers here... ("just over 50" are folks who grew up with U2, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc.) 🤔

@ai6yr I am the oldest of the Gen-Xers and I'd hit some classes on goth culture in the 80s and 90s, but Sinatra? Great voice, shitty dude. But yeah, Gen-X starts in 1965, meaning 15 in 1980, so the 80s and early to mid-90s was our era, not this 1950s shit.

There's a scene in the (correction DC Comics) movie "The Flash" where The Flash is ravenously hungry, after running around at a billion miles an hour. That is about me right now after bicycling 80+ lbs of books to the library, bicycling back, moving my entire household back into the house, then bicycling from what was my temporary residence back (in order to get the bicycle back). Whew. (ps. All the comic book characters and the random worlds they inhabit are just... confusing...)

I cannot express enough how much promise this grinder from KitchenAid had in 2004, and how much of a disappointment it was.

ALL KitchenAid had to do was put a good burrset inside, and reduce the static problems. But they did neither. They used a pressed-metal burrset.

It had almost everything we like in grinders today: direct down path, auger, powerful motor, all metal construction, the works.

Let down by the burr set (mostly) and the lack of any kind of anti-static system (a bit).

So sad.

@ai6yr @Viss I use road cameras for tracking tornadoes in the US South East (I live in the Birmingham area). I saw the Hendersonville tornado hit the substation on one of these cameras recently.
