4.5.0.24 for the 1 II and Xperia 5 II has been released

The port existed before it’s public release for quite long, it was developed along the Xperia 10 III port. I’m using it ever since then. However the testing, polishing and subsequent release took quite some time because of my personal situation and the work on other items such as the the update discovery service Cosu.

4.4.0.72 for the 1 and Xperia 5 has been released

The release includes various security updates and other bug fixes that affect all Sony adaptations taken from Jolla.

The delay between the last was mostly caused by the development for the update discovery service and
my personal situation in my private live took a turn for the worst last year. The Xperia 1/5 II port also took some time of course.

@mcc Np, just ask. The Xperia 1/5 III is a new model.
I didn't found any problem regarding DRM in the Xperia 1/5.
The Xperia 1/5 no matter which version do share the same base (also called board).
Porting the Xperia 1 or 5 means also porting the other except extra variants of packages.

I don't have hardware to port the Xperia 1/5 III.
But if anyone wants to start porting those I can help and provide the project infrastructure
to do so.

thaodan,
@thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

@ErikUden Don't get how I could call it I only know one X and it's X11.
They even use they same Icon as Xorg.
X.org is the real thing X.com is the fake.

Developer: "Good news! Our product is open source, and we're porting it to - here's our roadmap! 🥳 "

Linux nerds: "Package it the way I want and do not consider packaging it in another way that I don't like 😠 "

Developer: "It's not even ported yet 🤷 "

Linux Nerds: (2 days later) "Is it ready yet!?!?!"

🤦‍♂️

thaodan,
@thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

@popey what do mean by not packaged the way I like it? I think the beauty of free software is that anyone can contribute.
Research and good bug reports are part of that.

Die Proteste Hunderttausender gegen die AfD wären die perfekte Gelegenheit für progressive Migrationspolitik. Doch Bund und Länder sehen das anders. https://taz.de/Neue-Restriktionen-fuer-Asylsuchende/!5985874/

thaodan,
@thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

@sourcerer @vermaden The isse isn't necessarily Wayland but the developers.
Just follow the story about the transition from -> GTK3 -> GTK4.

I found this read very interesting to understand the worlds development better:
https://ludditus.com/2021/05/30/is-there-any-future-for-the-gtk-based-desktop-environments

thaodan,
@thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

@ebassi @vermaden @sourcerer I see you are triggered by the post, which explains why you ignore any argument in it.
You provide the argument for blog post: GTK apps that use libadwaita
turn into GNOME apps.
Sure there will be more GTK apps but yet have any of these apps coming outside of GNOME adapted GTK4?

Had a crazy idea to support tls-alpn for . I think I can make it work by setting up a container but map 443 to a high local port, then proxy all .acme_challenge to caddy, and have the same domains listed in caddy with the generated certs volume-mounted to the location that apache is set up to read, then using inotify to restart apache on change to those cert files.

https://caddy.community/t/using-caddy-to-keep-certificates-renewed/7525

thaodan,
@thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

@vwbusguy Did you ask them why the block port 80?

thaodan,
@thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

@vwbusguy That a company can just restrict whatever port they see fit sounds very dark.
The U.S. is shown as so much about "freedom" from outside of the U.S., this sounds like the opposite.

Thanks for explaining.

I guess the joke about cable companies in wasn't so far off.

thaodan,
@thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

@vwbusguy Ah I see. Like to decide whom to shoot for entering my lawn (sarcasm).
Subjectivity comes into play I guess.

Plasma developer David Edmundson demonstrates how a desktop using Wayland, Qt6 and KWin can recover from a catastrophic crash as if nothing had happened.

thaodan,
@thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

@kde I'm very interested on how will handle this, especially for very long running applications such as IDE's or Emacs.
Currently GTK commits suicide for you if it looses the connection to the Wayland display server by calling _exit().

    If your server enforces a colonialistic "English-only" rule and forbids languages like Irish and Welsh (or any other minority language) from being used, consider moving to a more inclusive server (and keep posting in your language!)

    thaodan,
    @thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

    @vwbusguy I was thinking of moving to that server after shut down but no longer being able to speak in German unless I answer another persons toot made me reconsider.
    i don't think the reasons were colonial thou.

    Now reading the threat link it look worse. The mod behaved like an ass.
    We have this saying in German: "Der Ton macht die Musik”, "The tone makes the music”, it's not about what you say but how.
    The rest is argumentative.

    thaodan,

    @vwbusguy I get that point, the argument invalidates the whole rule.

    After making the switch from Xorg + Openbox --> Wayland + Sway and a few weeks of use I find myself liking it very much!

    Sway quickly gets you 90% towards a usable desktop. Its that 10% where you're replacing all your X11 tools and crafting your own desktop just the way you like it that takes some experimenting!

    This is how I do it, with links to my config files:
    https://www.dwarmstrong.org/sway/

    thaodan,
    @thaodan@mastodon.social avatar

    @dwarmstrong I tried sway it was kinda nice but things that killed it in the end for me where no screen mirroring, smplayer not working on wayland and not having the possibility to use existing tools I use such as krunner (at least not 100% working).
    I tried Hyprland but in there Krunner was even more broken even thou screen mirroring kinda works.
