A student shared this with me about their upcoming graduation ceremony. It's the sign of the times that of course we would use during graduation so it too can mispronounce names.

Sigh.

Only 3 more games left in the NFL season 🍿 Rooting for a Lions-Ravens Superbowl today! 💙💜

@sethmlarson

The second game for me is a tough one. I grew up in the San Fran bay area, so I'm a long time fan of the 49ers. I now live in Michigan, and though I still primarily root for the Bears, I would love to see the Lions in the Super Bowl.

I can tell ya...nothing will get you out of morning groggyness more than having your father with dementia threaten you with a loaded nail gun over locking the fridge due to his abuse of Fudgsicles.

Nail gun is disarmed, and fuel and battery are safely locked away. Learned the lock on the fridge (bicycle U lock) is a trigger for him...so can't use it.

Today at required state government meeting for son’s services authorizations, social worker with 7 years experience THUNDERSTRUCK to learn most caregivers are part time, no benefits, no vacation pay or sick pay, hourly staff who aren’t eligibile for overtime pay and are not paid if client is in the hospital temporarily. Oh yes, minimum wage. He had asked me why the agencies authorized us haven’t been able to find and hire another caregiver we need. @caregivers

And that's when Grandma yells "NO I WILL NOT BUY YOUR PRINTER SUBSCRIPTION, GO TO HELL"

Do not buy this abusive garbage. Do not give HP your money for a product you then have to spend more money for just to use.

If you've already bought this junk, throwing it off the top of the nearest car park will at least help you extract what value is left. Then get a good laser that doesn't raid your wallet.

HP = Have Paperweight

Mine is sitting up on my shelf. We replaced it with a Canon in my dad's office. The kicker was not being able to scan without decently full printer ink cartridges.

thundergod97,
@thundergod97@fosstodon.org avatar

@yakkoj It got in a loop of needing ink whenever I would try to scan. Since this hit right when I was in the middle of trying to file taxes, it was definitely time to kick it to the curb.

I can only take off so much...he can always pile on more. BUT NOOOOO we have to raise the temperature in the house at night because it's too cold.

So I gave him one of the blankets off my bed which I normally use in the winter time to keep my feet warm. So now I won't have that come this winter. Hopefully the afghans I have will be enough.

And of course all this got us both amped up, so he will just not be able to use his sleeping pill tonight due to adrenaline.

Because we are in Michigan we are in the Detroit market...so we don't get to watch the Bears play the Raiders, we get to watch the Lions play the Ravens.

Closer to Chicago than Detroit, but we get Detroit instead of the Bears.

Other options, aren't loading because I don't want to completely disable all my privacy focused protections.

Thanks Cable (NFL, Comcast, Fox) for the extra long period of questioning by my dad this morning...who doesn't quite understand why he didn't get to see the Bears play on Sunday.

Also because of that, he has some confusion on what day it is...he thinks it's Sunday because he hasn't seen the Bears play this week.

About 85% of my Steam library is games I've never played. I just added 10 more from Humble Bundle.

I have a problem.

thundergod97,
@thundergod97@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast

I solved that problem for myself in a way that at least reduces the guilt of not playing most of the games in my library:

If I bought a game it means I liked the looks of it enough to buy it. That doesn't mean it has interested me enough to play it. But it means I have voted with my wallet and effectively put in my vote to have their game development company continue doing that sort of game. I may never play the game, but hopefully I will play another like it down the road.

>Adobe has only YEARLY plan.
>It's billed monthly, so there's pro-rated ETF if you cancel early.

What a racket.

Let's use Photoshop as an example. It's $252/yr ($21/mo). If you just need Photoshop to do a few quick edits once in a blue moon, you have TWO WEEKS to do this without incurring the ETF. (I admit that's kind of dirty no matter what. You could "use Photoshop for free" if you're quick enough.)

After 2 weeks, you're on the hook for the entire year's cost or pay a pro-rated cancel fee

I know I don't experience what you experience with your son, but I know the same feeling. In my last visit with my therapist about my anger, the issue of whether or not I kept up with my daily log came up. I had to be honest and say that no....it wasn't working for me. In the moments it's happening, I don't feel like logging it. After that I don't feel like logging it either as I don't want to always be thinking about how I get angry So I don't end up logging it.

thundergod97,
@thundergod97@fosstodon.org avatar

@cobalt @caregivers

It's basically I get tired of feeling that way a lot of the time, so I end up avoiding dredging up those memories just to record them and I find it really doesn't help me a great deal anyway.

The biggest issue I have is getting him to do things that will keep him healthy.

Wearing the splint for his wrist - he's refusing to wear it again.

Drink water for hydration - He drinks Diet Coke all the time and thinks that's all he needs. Only it isn't because his kidneys aren't functioning as well as they used to so he needs real actual water in some form or another to stay properly hydrated.

Sorry to hear. Been there, I never want to return, but I know I probably will at some point. You are spot on...it is exhausting.

Even though my dad's behavior is mostly controlled...there's just certain times of the day he gets a aggravated a little too easily, but it's still kept under control. Having to adjust when we do things to avoid those times. Like eating dinner a little earlier so he can go to bed when he wants to.

You suppose you could add a feature to lock:
tabs
tabs in a tab stack
pinned tabs
pinned tabs in a tab stack

There's certain tabs I have a certain way, however, I find it far too easy to accidently trigger their move, or removal from a tab stack. I'd just like to lock some of these tabs in their current place so I cannot accidentally do this.

    Sudden changes like that can be rough.

    My dad experienced one today...his BP did a 180 and is now running on the high side. The calm, rational, and alert dad yesterday has been replaced with a delusional even hostile dad today.

    Been monitoring his bp all day. Last thing was he just wanted to lay in bed as his energy was now low. Still monitoring him but maybe this will allow his bp to come down and him to chill out with the delusions.

    Clearly BP not in control.

    @dbaplanb @caregivers

    No..not locking the door...he settled down near dinner time.

    Just going to get to bed at a decent time tonight so I'm up before my alarms, and hopefully him. Need to do BP readings laying, sitting, and standing...and didn't get the opportunity this morning.

    And surprise surprise....just melatonin is not enough. Two nights in a row he's woken up. Last night it was at 2:47am. Tonight it was around 11pm.

    Just hoping he can resume his previous sleeping pill or they have a viable alternative that won't adversely affect his BP.

    thundergod97,
    @thundergod97@fosstodon.org avatar

    @caregivers

    We gave 15mg a try for his big sleep pill. Clearly not enough because he's waking up every night asking for more pills. Tonight it was "no one has given me my pills tonight". So I doubled up the big sleep pill to 30 mg (what he's been using when the doctor's at the hospital DON'T change it) to hopefully get him to sleep.

    We got a claim filed for some high end hearing loss he has from firing artillery. Going to be heading over next week to sign him up for VA healthcare. The guy at the county VA office was quite helpful and answered my questions regarding that.
