Difficult for a job ad to have a red flag in every sentence, but not impossible apparently.

Good news! Because of a late availability change, there are two spots available for the introductory Rust course that I'm teaching next week.

I'm happy to go with a 'pay what you want' model for these places. The retail price is USD 1,990 - so this could be a very good deal!

If you are interested (or know anyone who might be) please DM within 24h.

Is it possible to give a thread a TTL? Essentially I want to trigger a panic in a thread of a deadline has been reached. Assume that there is also a supervisor thread running with a thread handle and the deadline.

From observing companies' recent behaviour, it appears that the cool thing about AI is that you can call yourself an open source company without actually being open source.

Crime coins are not the future. Electricity consumption due to Bitcoin is estimated to reach 100 TWh in 2024, and probably hit that a long time ago.

Are there are any Rust web frameworks (even toy ones) that use blocking I/O?

This morning I enabled Tauri to use an embedded Servo as webview following the instructions in this blog post: https://servo.org/blog/2024/01/19/embedding-update/. It's far too early to say this, but in principle this could mean the end of needing Chromium-backed Electron apps.

To ensure that you create "zero install" relocatable static binaries for Linux, you should enable the crt-static flag (crt is shorthand for "C runtime").

This can also be added to config files, but can also be passed around as an environment variable at a pinch.

What's going on here is that, while Rust code is statically compiles code by default except for one part, libc. The C standard library provides an interface to UNIX-esque operating systems (C and UNIX were developed together). This flag makes sure that last bit is also statically compiled, rather than using the system's libc.
