I'm a bit intrigued by the Italian-made Seabike concept. Seems like an obvious thing in retrospect so curious why there haven't been things like it before.
Anyone tried it already?

Germany is banning the rector of the University of Glasgow from entering the EU. Because he’s a witness to genocide (as a surgeon who among other things repairs blown off faces of children) who was to speak at the French senate.

Germany has completely lost it.

@rzeta0 @thomasfuchs I just wonder what horse has Germany in this race, so to speak. Why is it doing Israel’s bidding? Reparations for WWII? Guilt?

Good post by @heckj on what he learned and the tradeoffs he did when designing an API for strict swift concurrency support.

The best part are the regrets he has, good guidance for those of us starting on our strict journey:

@krzyzanowskim @Migueldeicaza @heckj Strict concurrency has completely taken the fun out of programming.

titociuro,
@titociuro@mstdn.social avatar

@Migueldeicaza @krzyzanowskim @heckj The thing is… I just haven’t suffered that many cases like you describe. Sure! Some, but I honestly had a pretty good grasp on GCD. Crashes are rare and far between. So spending all this time adopting SC is not productive. Let alone fun. 🤷🏻‍♂️

titociuro,
@titociuro@mstdn.social avatar

@Migueldeicaza @krzyzanowskim @heckj Yeah, right. 🙄 I love your work, and I think it’s more complex than the average iOS app. While SC will help you conquer those daemons, I think it’s overkill for most apps. I dunno… I must be old school, but I sure feel more comfortable with GCD.

Huh. Just discovered that my monitor's weight is "whatever it takes to slowly break the desk"

This seems like something that will become a problem in the near future.

titociuro,
@titociuro@mstdn.social avatar

@rodhilton I solved the same problem going to Home Depot, lumber department and find solid, from the discarded wood bin. I ask them if they could cut a thick-enough cube (3 in/ 10 cm if I recall). Didn’t want to charge me anything. I use it as extra support and works like a charm.

titociuro,
@titociuro@mstdn.social avatar

@rodhilton Underneath. Completely hidden from view. It provides a solid anchor, I have a 32” display and does not move at all. We use the same method at work and it’s 👍🏻

titociuro,
@titociuro@mstdn.social avatar

@sandofsky Then again, you don’t know Ken at all.

titociuro,
@titociuro@mstdn.social avatar

@sandofsky I’m not joking. Ken’s know-how has been present pretty much in all major projects at Apple for more than twenty years. Surely you’ve heard of Safari? Guess who started it. No, not me, good heavens. Ken did. I was there. And he was constantly moving across secret projects. I can’t possibly know all of them, but he was all over the place. Including the iOS keyboard. So saying he had a tiny role sure sounds like dick riding to me.

Actors in Swift help us make sure our code is free of data races. They can do this by promising us that they only do one thing at a time. That way, we can safely read and write mutable state without running into data races.

That said.. when a function call on an actor gets suspended because it's awaiting something, the actor will happily start running a second function.

titociuro,
@titociuro@mstdn.social avatar

@donnywals @mattiem My question: are we going to be forced to eat this? Or are we going to be free to use the method of our choosing, GCD et al?

titociuro,
@titociuro@mstdn.social avatar

@icanzilb @mattiem @donnywals Don’t we have OSAllocatedUnfairLock now? Or do we need another indirection level with @ in front to make it SwiftUI friendly? It feels like we get bored with locks every 5 years or so.

titociuro,
@titociuro@mstdn.social avatar

@icanzilb @mattiem @donnywals OK.. so I guess the need to incorporate it into Swift itself would mainly be for cross-platform reasons?

It's not about Dems vs GOP, libs vs conservs. The 2024 election, Roger Stone said, will be “a fight bw light & dark…a struggle bw good and evil…an epic fight bw the godly & the godless.”

IOW, if Trump loses, America will be plunged into 1000 years of darkness.

Stone's targeted audience see Trump as a Messiah, and are preparing for Armageddon.

& per my own sources, are "definitely planning to create havoc" 1/... https://news.yahoo.com/why-top-trump-allies-like-roger-stone-are-using-apocalyptic-religious-rhetoric-100039179.html
