The hot new temper tantrum in Baltimore seems to be preferring a risk of a gas explosion over having a gas regulator on the front of your house. Don't get me wrong, I agree they're pretty ugly but I also significantly prefer my house not exploded https://www.wbaltv.com/article/baltimoreans-set-sue-bge-over-equipment-city-council-plans-hearing-on-issue/44336750

@ItsSheVee I have a regulator on the inside wall of my basement with a tiny vent on the outside. I'm not sure why they're not doing this.

@ItsSheVee After people protesting RF electric meters for being harmful to their health ("from the radiation") I've given up on finding the logic.

Why don't we have clothes dryers in the U.S. that need no exhaust out of buildings, windows? I'm using a dryer in Spain that collects the water in a "drawer" that you dump out. You just plug this sucker in, needs nothing else. Why do we have to live such shitty lives.☹️

vees,
@vees@epistolary.org avatar

@StillIRise1963 So it's more of a dehumidifier than a dryer, it just happens to have clothes in between the recirculating dried air?

@ricardoharvin @Cbfoley @StillIRise1963 I was asking a clarifying question because I was unfamiliar with it. I might have been born a white guy and moved to Maryland, but you chose today to be an asshole.

    Given that ransomware groups appear to be targeting FTP appliances left and right, this is probably a smart move. But 2024?

    OFAC will retire its public-facing file transfer protocol (FTP) server (ofacftp.treas.gov) on or about June 10, 2024.

    In order to comply with updated Treasury security policies, OFAC will retire this FTP capability associated with the file transfer protocol. OFAC is aware that many users utilize ofacftp.treas.gov to automate their sanctions list data downloads. OFAC will maintain this server for one additional calendar year to allow users sufficient time to develop automation that utilizes the list content hosted on the agency's website at the following URLs listed below. Members of the public may contact OFAC at O_F_A_C@treasury.gov for technical support related to this decision.

    Had new HVAC installed last week as part of the reno.

    The job cost stayed proportional to property size and value.

    Wages went up.

    Material costs got pinched.

    “Optimal” engineering design practices filled the gap.

    I'm looking to get my next "walking around" device that I can use to get personal things done with a keyboard and reasonably sized display outside the house. I can do 70% of what I need from my phone. This is the "pay bills and write a research paper" device. The options available for my price point are absolutely paralyzing. Does anyone have a device they absolutely love that's performant, sips power, has USB-C and lets them do 95% of what they'd do on a desktop at home under $700?

    Maryland Highway Administration quietly closed my service request from February to review a terrible intersection design. They did not realize that I have a Kanban board called "Local Government" with regular reminders to follow up on service requests I file.

    This morning I escalated the close and extracted a promise of adding "guide marks" though the intersection.

    Don't try to out-bureaucrat me, I've been forged and sharpened in the glowing furnace of federal contracting project management.
