@chikim I've really been enjoying VOLlama. Nice work! Would be nice to be able to switch between OpenAI and local models without going in to API prefs. More accelerator keys for menu options would be good, too. Could maybe a blank line be inserted in the log between each entry? Last, can you trap key-down on the Control key to stop the system voice? I know it's a hobby project, so no idea how much time you have for any of that, but just throwing them out there.

@chikim @bryansmart And this is what AI should be able to do for us. :)

I believe this is the first of its kind implementation on the web, i.e. first-letter navigation, so kudos to the Drive team! :) https://unmute.community/@payown/112369398805758817

vick21,
@vick21@mastodon.social avatar

@jscholes Wait, what? Sorry, I meant on the web specifically. I think the implementation is quite a bit different but, most importantly here IMHO, is the courage to take this paradigm to the web. It’s been successfully proven to work on the desktop, but we have not seen it on the web, did we? :)

vick21,
@vick21@mastodon.social avatar

@jscholes I think it’s fairly excusable given the fact that the code base had to mature and the appetite had to be there. Let’s be realistic! This is not a critical business feature! :) :)

It's hardly a hot take, but I still marvel, from time to time, that Windows is still a thing. As operating systems go, it is insanely old. Even back in 2000, working at MS in a product group, we thought it was old, having been around over 15 years. I don't think any of us would have honestly believed it would still be a thing in 25 years. At that time, the Mac OS was seen as way too old, and it had been around 17 years by then. Windows is this shitty curse that will seemingly last forever.

vick21,
@vick21@mastodon.social avatar

@bryansmart But it does show you how resillient it is if you put enough money and developers behind it. I love Mac OS, but despite its colors and stability, the market and regular users sort of don’t care! :)

Hello @MonaApp A Voiceover user here! Not sure if this is even feasible, but I thought I'd ask. It would be really awesome if there was a way to either collapse or mute threads. My biggest thing here is to be able to skip long threads instead of having to swipe through multiple posts that belong to it. What do you think? :) Thanks for reading!

For those of you who have used VOLlama, thank you for testing my hobby project! I'm considering moving it out of pre-release and marking the latest build as the first public release. Any thoughts on its stability or issues with bugs? Is it fairly stable or unstable? Of course, like all my other projects, it'll be free open source! @vick21 @technowitch @FreakyFwoof @kaveinthran @pixelate @ppatel

vick21,
@vick21@mastodon.social avatar

@chikim @technowitch @FreakyFwoof @kaveinthran @pixelate @ppatel Works well here. But I'm sure, as soon as you release it, we will start finding bugs! LOL

vick21,
@vick21@mastodon.social avatar

@chikim @technowitch @FreakyFwoof @kaveinthran @pixelate @ppatel OK, I think I found a bug that I need to report. :) Just downloaded the lateest release and ran it. After copying one model to another from the “advanced” menu, I think the template is saved in a format that Llama (or Python) doesn’t like. When running the new model, I get an error about the template format (sorry, don’t have the exact message handy).

Here is an example of how bad are with math. I asked about velocity in the context of Agile process. The answer?
“Sure! Let's say that an Agile development team has completed four iterations, each lasting two weeks. In the first iteration, they delivered 12 user stories; in the second, they delivered 10; in the third, they delivered 9; and in the fourth, they delivered 8. The total number of user stories completed by the end of the fourth iteration is 49 (12 + 10 + 9 + 8)”.

really upsetting to see former Wikimedia Foundation director and CEO Katherine Maher getting targeted by the rightwing outrage machine in her new role as NPR CEO. she's wonderful, and NPR is lucky to have her. i hope they stand behind her.

Earlier today, Microsoft released new WizardLM-2 7b, 8x22b, 70b with great benchmark result, (of course, they say as good or almost same as GPT-4), but they removed weights on Huggingface, repo on Github, and their whitepaper. Someone on Reddit joked maybe they released GPT-4 by mistake! lol Quantized. weights from other people are still around on Huggingface!

vick21,
@vick21@mastodon.social avatar

@chikim And Copilot still runs on top of GPT4! :)

vick21,
@vick21@mastodon.social avatar

@chikim Also, I think we talked about this before, I cannot justify 20 USD per month for either Copilot pro or Chat GPT. They really need to try harder or just lower the price. Make it a Spotify, for example! :)

Wow. Was just the other day I heard about MS blocking shell and Start Menu mods as malware. Now, they're forcing Edge as your default browser via a driver you can't tamper with. Tell me again how macOS is terrible? https://infosec.exchange/@BleepingComputer/112230366777600767

@bryansmart @TheQuinbox I’ve given up on Safari for the time being. There are other choices, like Chrome and Firefox. I know Safari is more convenient because it’s a bit better integrated with the OS, but the “busy” and password fields really drive me nuts. But yeah, wish we had better web browsing on Mac OS with VOiceOver. I don’t browse the web much these days though, so many alternatives! :)

I’ve been wondering why most the AI and non AI powered TTS engines shy away from using breathing when generating speech? Seems like Mac OS’s Alex and ChatGPT’s TTS are the only ones?

I am, of course, late to many things, the latest one being "static site generators". I believe there are quite a few people using these? What would you say about the following article comparing Jekyll, Hugo and Eleventy? https://tomhazledine.com/eleventy-static-site-generator/
With SSGs, can I insert Youtube players, polls, comment forms and other dynamic content features though?
