I seriously believe that one of the best things Google could do for the Web ecosystem is to bring back Google Reader.

And when she tried to join the Fediverse, she was greeted with a barrage of hate, sexism, racism, and anti-semitism that should have never been allowed to happen.

So now no one on Fediverse gets to interact with her directly about her work on here. Our loss. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Which is why we'll make it so that this type of terrible welcome is unlikely to happen again. Allowing it to happen to her was a choice. We will make better ones.

@jonny I really like some of the ideas in your writing, but I'm often struggling with accessing the text and really understanding it. I'll try to read the paper you linked. I really want to understand it.

Some , when I make them up, feel more like I've discovered them, revealed them, like stumbling over a partially-unearthed fossil and picking it out.

Like, the is so inevitable, so elegantly prefigured in the pre-existing setup, "hiding in plain sight," that once I've said it, I can hardly believe I'm the first.

I request that you reply to this post with a you came up with that you feel like you discovered.

(I wonder what patterns we'll find. Lots of puns? Reversals?)

vrandecic,
@vrandecic@mas.to avatar

@brainwane not one I discovered, but that very much feels discovered:

Why do geeks sometimes mix up Halloween and Christmas?

Because DEC25 = OCT31

I'm sure there's a nearby yet unmined joke involving Tim Burton's Nightmare before Christmas

vrandecic,
@vrandecic@mas.to avatar

@brainwane I would be surprised if not. To me it feels like it fits your description of a discovered joke well.

@luis_in_brief quite a bit, I assume. In the last few years, most of the new books I ordered seemed to be print on demand (minus three books that are popular).

How was the prize?

So far I am totally impressed with โ€˜s ability to relay real time news on events. I checked the bird site as a comparison, and itโ€™s miles behind because they donโ€™t display posts chronologically and boost subscriber posts, which tend to be old. Yay !

The story of the Red Delicious apple should be a lesson about trusting the market. Yes, eventually the market would correct, but with a lot of pain.

Red Delicious was for years selected for storage and looks, neglecting taste. Eventually consumers noticed, and stopped buying, but apple orchards take years to be replaced. In the late 90s the industry lost more than $700 million and Clinton bailed them out.

The belief in the invisible hand needs to be moderated.
