Jumping back to the KU+ oshpark board for a bit to run some EM models before ordering it.

Here's one of the diffpairs that I hadn't quite tuned right. You can see that the zero crossings in the waveforms on the P/N legs aren't quite aligned.

There’s this myth that classical composers are insular, and don’t listen to anything except classical music.

In reality, classical musicians approach other musical genres with their ear to the ground. They know what’s going on. They hear fresh new developments.

There’s a classical composer I follow, named David Bruce, who integrated vaporwave ideas into a composition. He doesn’t treat it as a novelty. And the result is a well-executed work.

I don’t have any experience with Owon but it looks like nice gear. I own a bunch of Rigol gear, including their low end SA DSA-815-TG, and have been very happy with it. I also have a couple of higher end Tektronix SA (RSA306 and RSA518, both with TG). I have had good luck with both of the Tektronix but they both are USB, so require a pc. 1/2

I liked the idea of USB instuments but you can run into incompatibilities with OS upgrades or other peripherals on the pc (which I have), so I’ve come back around to favoring all-in-one instruments (even though there’s a pc of some sort inside but it is dedicated to that instrument).

Actually, that picture was taken in December in a freezing cold telescope dome at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh, with snow coming through the open slit 🥶

Assembling the trigger crossbar board over lunch.

Not thrilled with the paste print quality, very inconsistent. the top left corner was way too thick as the board flexed during printing, the middle BGA skipped some pads, and the WLCSP in the bottom right was near perfect.

These big boards bend too much in my paste fixture, I need to find a way to prevent that before I do any more boards of this scale.

With the 1000baseT1 boards mostly alive, but no progress on decoding until I get the new coupler board, I'm shifting gears to the trigger crossbar.

Building the back side tonight. Probably won't have time to do the front until tomorrow.

I need to figure out a solution for working with larger boards. This thing is maxing out my current stencil fixture. And my dreams are only getting bigger from here.

Random thought while assembling a PCB: Has there ever been a literal SHTF situation? As in, fecal matter impacting a rotating air circulation device?

How would such a situation arise, considering that plumbing and HVAC are (normally) kept quite separate from one another?

@azonenberg back in the 80s I did head/media design for disk drives. This was very early DSP days. It’s so amazing to see what you can do now and the rates involved (following your project).

Got my starter boards up and working and communicating with one another. Pasted together some of the samples from the ch32v003fun library to try out GPIO, the included SPI based nRF24 library, and the I2C based OLED (ssd1306) output.
