When customer support teams stop using Twitter, that's when you know a key component of Twitter's former value is finished.

Pre-Elon Twitter often showed off what airlines could do with customer service through their platform. Now that Elon owns Twitter, they're jumping ship.

Still, there's a big need for customer service to utilize microblogging -- and I suspect these airlines will migrate elsewhere. Maybe not now, but eventually.

potential seems unlimited for corporate apps innovating re the customer service.

I'm arguing for separate targeted apps, but with new functionality like has done. One for corporate PR, one for journalists, one for government agencies etc (at least).

well I know some libertarians don't think we're currently great on all these already, while the rest of the developed world is pretty good on all those things too imo.

Interesting observation about social media “fun”:

Some people think is “fun”. However, I find it anxiety-inducing and stressful. I’m not the only one who thinks so. A few autistic people say the same thing.

seems “fun” to me because I can make it be what I need it to be. For example, it’s nice that I can create antennas devoted to my special interests.

Trump says the woman accusing him of rape was never attractive to him, but he mistook her for his ex-wife. Maybe there are better reasons why the case is faulty, but he keeps going back to this one and demeaning how she looks today. In a world where most people only hear one side of the story, this needs to be pointed out imo.
https://nypost.com/2023/01/19/trump-confused-photo-of-rape-accuser-e-jean-carroll-for-his-ex-wife-marla-maples-during-deposition/amp/

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@amerika

we should ask why he thought he could see the picture well enough to say it was his ex-wife but not know it wasn't his accuser.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@amerika

it's up to a jury to decide but you are changing the subject.

I said there may be other reasons to think he didn't do it, but he keeps going back to the argument that she wasn't attractive to him, and then he keeps bringing up what she looks like now. his own mistake shows that's a dumb argument, his own ex-wife and the accuser looked enough alike back then that he could make that mistake. she wasn't obese or too tall or short or ugly or even had very different hair. it's weird.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@errhead @amerika

he says falsely, but you have a point. the trick is it's obviously part of his attempt to make people think he couldn't have done it cause she's not attractive enough for him. but she was at the time. the guy sets these narratives and his supporters think he's the truth teller. no, he's just like the rest of them, he just has different shit he wants to lie about.

Still tweaking this metaphor but what do folks think? Open to improve.

  1. The is similar to a small colony of collected towns, just formed counties, roadways, governance, and security. Lots of factions but we're all learning to live together, & just had a massive influx of new residents, 3/4ths of the population is brand new. Not everything works great, but it all works, and room to improve is limitless.

If it scaled to this, it likely could scale far, far greater.

The danger of the excessive use of the can be seen in email today. If you're using your own domain name or server, the message often doesn't go through. The big email providers say they are doing this to prevent abuse, and maybe that's true. But the presumption of malice, the centralization of services and the use of shared block lists is bad for free expression and market competition. This can happen to too. Open protocols are not enough, it matters how we use them.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@amerika

genetics map to culture to the degree people stayed in the same area long enough living with the same people, but I think I get part of your fear of diversity now.

you think that when cultures mingle, people are dumb and so instead of taking the best of both cultures, they will more often take the worst. I think the opposite. I think it's cool to remember how people lived and try to learn from that, I don't want humanity preserved in amber. especially when the time/place is arbitrary.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@amerika

that our lives now are better than any previous generation is the diversity success story.

yes, of course the mingling breaks your concept of culture because your concept is built on looking at humans in isolation. freezing a small group in time and space and looking approvingly on something they did that was impressive in their situation. but just before that, separate groups had to mingle to establish this culture you now favor. it's the endless human story, not due to propaganda.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@amerika

my time scale is all of human history. families formed tribes and then civilizations and they learned from each other. they also killed each other. but we're a bit better off than any first group that was larger than second cousins etc, and that joining together was an increase in diversity.

you can't exempt capitalism and technology from our culture. you also can't say consumerism hasn't been a huge driver of technological advances and capitalism.

you're just completely selective.

@ericdano @oliphant

the goal is a society that best understands the world & each other. the way that decentralized social media can facilitate the free flow of information & perspectives to make this possible is revolutionary. when people intentionally harass others, it reduces engagement and this exchange. but so does silencing. if somebody pushes their ideas on others when it's clearly unwanted, blocking is fine. and defederating is fine when an instance won't prevent this harassment. IMO

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@ericdano @oliphant

I agree with that. there was an issue about defederating related to opinions re the Harry Potter game. that should not lead to defederating if people aren't tagging others who don't want to be etc. Etc etc.

@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

Why is God continuing to allow all these mass shootings after all our hearts and prayers?

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@Brianwarden @PG_Chrys

we are trying to address mental health. every country is. I support doing more but that takes more money or policy changes that the same people who don't want to have more gun control, also don't want to change or pay for. there will always be people trying to kill people. guns are more effective. it's why other countries also limit access to them more than we do, and it leads to less carnage when people do attack. and they have not become dictatorships.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@tedb @PG_Chrys

I know why I don't think the prayers help. my question is what do the prayerful think about the continuation of the carnage despite all the tweets etc.

Hawaii has strict gun laws and they work because it's much harder to import them. Chicago is between Indiana and Wisconsin with much more lenient laws.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@Brianwarden @chris

those seem quite dissimilar but I get your point. the main theme of my show is that we mostly disagree because we've had different life experiences and consumed different media. people do tend left or right in certain ways though. we will only make progress by trying to understand each other better. maybe conservatives and progressives could do a guns for trans kids monthly swap.
