My mum has just explained to me that flatbreads are crispier than crispbreads but flatter. Very confusing.

@penguin42 And there's me thinking flatbreads are floppy foldable bread.

I hate the connectors on flex connectors; the camera I'm attempting to repair - I gave up trying to solder a new LED onto the backlight, too fiddly - so just bought a new display assembly - and .... the pressure bar on the data cable connector on the board disintegrated as I was getting the new cable in. Good news is it all works if I press on it with a pen - hmm, now hth to bodge that....

    LED ceiling light specs are crazy; the ones with changeable bulbs - the max wattage is often no relation to the max-per-socket (having a max-total much larger than the sockets*max-per-socket); that is if you can tell which specs are talking about wattage vs equivalent. Or whether they're talking max or talking about the bulbs they supply with.

    wyliecoyoteuk,
    @wyliecoyoteuk@mastodon.org.uk avatar

    @penguin42 Also, although you can buy non fire-safe fittings for recessed lamps with replaceable bulbs, it's illegal to fit them.

    Modern houses must be so easy having conduit everywhere, rather than HTF am I going to get a cable from there....

    wyliecoyoteuk, (edited )
    @wyliecoyoteuk@mastodon.org.uk avatar

    @penguin42 Mine has all the cables run through the loft and inside the stud walls.
    Due to the configuration of the roof, some parts at the front (which is where the CU and fibre box are) are really difficult to access.
    Oddly enough the TV antenna has a junction box with 4 cables connected coming out, but there are only 2 TV points.

    wyliecoyoteuk,
    @wyliecoyoteuk@mastodon.org.uk avatar

    @penguin42 What cables are you running?

    wyliecoyoteuk,
    @wyliecoyoteuk@mastodon.org.uk avatar

    @penguin42 That's why I resorted to Powerline for some stuff.
    In our old house I ran Ethernet under the floors where possible, also I had boxed in central heating pipes from upstairs down.
    I also used this stuff on top of the skirting board.

    wyliecoyoteuk,
    @wyliecoyoteuk@mastodon.org.uk avatar

    @penguin42 Until fairly recently, (2018 was the last time I was involved with faxes) the NHS still used faxes for sending prescriptions to pharmacies, and some courts would only accept faxed documents.

    I've been talking about how AI will directly lead to an Idiocracy (2006) scenario for some time, but today's update to the "can you melt eggs?" saga is as clear an illustration of how as I think it's possible to ever have.

    Quora's AI answers made up the melting point of eggs, and then Google picked it up and responded affirmatively that you can indeed melt eggs.

    Then people wrote articles about how stupid it is that Google says eggs can melt. The Google fixes the answer.

    Then Google ingests an article about how stupid it is that Google says you can melt eggs, and suddenly Google starts answering affirmatively again that you can melt eggs, citing the article about how stupid Google is for thinking you can melt eggs.

    @wyliecoyoteuk@mastodon.org.uk avatar

    @nyquildotorg From my experience of company board meetings AI is probably going to replace Wikipedia as the most stupid source to base business decisions on.
    On one occasion another director referenced a Wikipedia article that said third party toner was as good as the genuine product. I had my laptop on the desk, and 10 minutes later i pointed out that the article no longer said that. (In fact my corrections still remain 10 years later).

    Not because of a fear of flooding, it just happened that way.
    Now we live on top of a hill in Cornwall, with nothing at the same height between us and Caradon hill on Bodmin Moor, 15 miles away.
