Hi there, in the upcoming kbin releases, I will be describing the changes along with author tags, but for now, you can check out what's happening here: https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/activity, as well as my personal feed: https://ernest.dev...
Is there any class in school you’ve done that’s been sustainable for you? If you feel like coding/art is more like a hobby and you don’t want to be stuck doing it forever, maybe there’s something else out there for you that you’d feel content working on a little every day.
If you’re worried about coding as a job from competitiveness though, I think don’t worry too much about it. It’ll work out if you just try your best. Even you doing coding for fun is pretty cool :o
Yeah I have noticed on lemmy.studio, a newer server, some of the communities from either kbin or lemmy didn’t update, but then after some time, som of them diiid update, with I think all of the old posts, and even if those old posts didn’t have comments. So maybe that’s why it happened for me but some are still unupdated
I try to give time and patience to kbin because it’s actually only a month old xD I think it’s this guy called ernesto and some of his friends that are developing for it. They have to fix a lot of things on the site because it’s still in a prototype mode. They work very fast though but yeah I think they’re going as fast as humanly possible right now. I’m glad there is an app being made already right now for both lemmy and kbin.
As me and many others, you might have encountered the problem, that tapping on a comment in your inbox doesn't get you to the comment and it's context. However, you can actually directly jump from the comments inbox to the correct comment + context in the post....
I think lemmy has a documentation website, and even though it's called documentation, it can be helpful when you want to add a community that's not already searchable.
I do have a tip for kbin too, which is to visit your Settings sooner than later and opt into notifications so you can actually be able to respond back to people. The default is very barebones which I guess is good
That's a weird bug. If you set this one - Notify me of new threads in a subscribed magazine - even that one doesn't show notifications? But I guess it's weird it's not notifying you of my replies to you, it should at least do that. If I didn't get notifications of your responses, there's no way I'd be able to know about it I think :/ Sorry you're experiencing this.
It feels like more Lemmy apps are going to make their way on to the app stores. With more apps, comes more people. More people, more API calls. How do we scale this server and hopefully all of the others to come, financially?...
oh maybe we should prepare some instances in advance to invite people to come to. There's a list of kbin servers, and lemmy servers. I'd just like to know if there's a way to like mass add some communities. I would make an account on kbin.place, which seems new and for the US, but I don't know if I can add that many magazines
Sorry if it's not allowed to post like this (just lmk and I'll delete, or feel free to delete), but do you think it would be a good idea to rename this community to something like "adhdmeme"? I'm browsing from kbin.social, where the name is just "adhd", which makes it hard for me to differentiate if the post on my feed is coming from lighter forum, or if it's from this slightly more serious forum also called adhd (but from kbin)
I may be being stupid here but is there a way to click on an article/post and cross post it to another relevant group/magazine? I'd rather not have to copy and paste it all, it would help with community visibility if you could cross post from smaller communities to larger ones....
oh, maybe it's cuz I'm on a less populated server for lemmy. I'm on lemmy.studio and it's been good, but it's actually really hard to know about any non-lemmy communities. I believe you can only search up "Redditmigration" on lemmy.world since someone already did the initial work to subscribe to it. On lemmy.studio, most of even the lemmy communities aren't on there yet, but at least the lemmy browser will let you see what's out there, so you can know to do the work to be the first to subscribe to it on that less populated server. However, there would be no way to know about the kbin communities if all I'm looking at is that lemmy browser
I'm guessing kbin would have the same issue( but im on a popular server there, kbin.social, so I can't confirm. Everything here, like you has been searchable for me probably cuz it's big so people have already subscribed)
I don't know if you've noticed this, but threads or comments about Lemmy or the Fediverse get downvoted a lot on Reddit and trolls who claim that it's "dogshit" and "not going anywhere" get systematically upvoted....
Yeah I do agree with that. Like if I got some search results from google, and it came from lemmy.one, the link takes me to lemmy.one site, but I probably don’t have an account on specifically lemmy.one. Then I can’t make any comments, save/upvote. I’d have to navigate there again on my account’s server to be able to do anything
Why YSK: You don't need to load down the instance by uploading the image to the instance. You only need to know the syntax is on the following line:...
Hi, I'm new to Lemmy and the fediverse. I'm looking for a community where funny, unexpected or interesting videos are being shared. Does anyone have recommendations?...
I've heard you can do a google search and append say kbin.social to get results just from kbin, but if I wanted to treat the fediverse's content like reddit's, is there a way to do the google search on just everything that's on the fediverse?...
Omg that sounds great! Thanks, I'm not that familiar with that google search filter and the possibilities we can put :)
Edit: I tried it, but I'm not sure yet, I think it adds a lot of entries I wasn't expecting, but it's still another great option to do the search. I tried it with: < desantis "join Lemmy" OR "powered by kbin" >
I'm not sure because I'm still new to kbin too. I'm also on kbin.social which is already big and people have already subscribed before to many of the magazines. So far it's always worked for me to use the search bar on the Magazines page, and just type the name or part of the name of the Lemmy community. It's kind of nice too since it'll show all existing communities/mags, and number of threads made, number of kbin.social subscribers.
for example I just try to type "anime" to find subs like that, and I tried "seattle" and could find it, but I'm guessing it's because you did that work just now to be the first subscriber on kbin.social?
How can I add a community that's from kbin? Also, if I add a community from a different aggregator like kbin to my lemmy account, will that make it available for everyone on lemmy to find?
if you're asking for kbin, I think there is no way at the moment, but I'm sure the developers will add it soon. kbin is a newer aggregator compared to lemmy
Are you talking about subscribing to a magazine? I do it on mobile by clicking the magazine I want, clicking the top left square button modal with the 3 lines, then scroll down until you see the magazine name to click Subscribe

r/ModCoord has officially recommended migration off of Reddit.
kbin.social was the first thing on the recommended list.

Add another sort to the magazines section to sort by number of threads (to help find magazines from other aggregators)
Sorry if this isn't the right place to add this post. If I've put it in the wrong place, feel free to let me know the correct magazine....
