I think one thing that gets overlooked about The Devil Went Down To Georgia is the Devil went down to Georgia

Implying Georgia is below hell

Naminreb,

@JonBaker

No more souls to steal in ‘Bama.

Naminreb,

This is a way to pass the buck to Biden for the government shutdown. He’s likely to veto that, if it even gets there.

Naminreb,

Beg to disagree. See: “Amish Mafia.”

My dad, a dr., was an award-winning photographer, but would never take money for his work. He got his photos in National Geographic calendar and other places, won contests, etc, but wouldn’t take a dime.

I’m going through his photos (he took, developed them himself, start to finish), have to get rid of a ton bc we can’t take them to Canada, 100s of mounted 11x14s. I’ll share some soon.

& if you’re very very good, I’ll also share a pic of me at 19 that he took in London. 😊 Maybe even more.

Naminreb,

@GottaLaff You can donate them to a University Library. Those collections are worthwhile.

Naminreb,

Hey! That stadium for Bret Favre won’t pay for itself!

Naminreb,

They actually caused a lot of harm, constantly…they just didn’t mean it.

The Killer movie review & film summary (David Fincher, 2023) | Roger Ebert (www.rogerebert.com)

In many ways, “The Killer” is exactly what you’d expect from a David Fincher movie centered on a hired assassin: a detail-rich procedural about what a hitman is forced to do as his calculated world implodes. And by telling this story of a deadly perfectionist who repeats phrases like "Forbid Empathy" to keep himself...

Naminreb,

You just described the feeling I have about Mindhunter or House of Cards…

Naminreb,

The UK House of Cards one was excellent. The ending blew my mind at the time.

Naminreb,

This dude paraded Russian troops during Mexico’s Independence Day. I take what he says with a grain of salt.

There are choices. You don’t like Apple Pay, get an Android phone.

Apple is manufacturing the phones and creating the ecosystem associated to the phone.

Because they manufacture the whole thing, they may get away with it as a hardware feature, which they protect for security and privacy reasons, which is their sales pitch to their customers.

Apple doesn’t sell its OS to other manufacturers.

Google does. And because they do that, they have to let other manufacturers have access to the OS features that manage payments through .

Android phones have been dinged with vulnerabilities through NFC technology.

Microsoft has been dinged with anti-Trust losses because they forced their features on other devices and quenched other manufacturers to do what they wanted. Apple doesn’t deal with other manufacturers. Apple doesn’t force customers to only do Apple Pay for transactions. Sure, it’s a feature they offer, but you can use Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, etc. with your phone. Even Google Pay. Just not with the phone’s hardware. They don’t even force you to use their card to pay.

In fact, Google and Samsung could use the payment system from Apple, if they create a bank and a card. But no, they can’t design software that could create vulnerabilities to Apple devices...and if that’s Apple’s competitive advantage, why should they give it away?

Lemmy interoperability with Mastodon

As of right now, you can follow either Lemmy accounts directly or follow Lemmy communities from Mastodon relatively easily if you know what you are searching for. This is really cool because you can read (and participate to !) discussions without having tu use a Lemmy-specific app or account. The wonders of the fediverse !...

Naminreb,

Funny thing is that immigration is a matter of two parties: the receiving country and the country of origin. Even if the Supreme Court of the US says it’s OK for Texas to deport…Texas doesn’t have any agreement with Mexico or any other country to deport people to.

Mexico already said they only have an agreement with the US…not with f’ing Texas.

So, any caught immigrants in Texas will either have to be shipped to some country that will take them, or be kept in Texas jail.

Either way, it will be expensive. It will create a humanitarian crises, and it will create an unsafe situation for Americans abroad, in particular in Mexico.

The Supreme Court has forgotten that International agreements take precedence over local laws.

Naminreb,

I think the point is that what started as friendly banter, continued, even after she asked him to stop. And it got to a point where it was not funny anymore. This was definitely creating a hostile environment, and she loves RB, and wants to be there…it’s unfair that because someone in power set their eyes on her, or is incapable of showing how bad he’s making things for someone who cares about him at a professional level, she now HAS to leave for her own sanity. She shouldn’t have to leave. And this dude should stop.

After seeing this, I get why the Verstappen’s said what they said. This is not fair. And RB is probably more than CH.

Naminreb,

It’s the US. Sue the City for compensatory damages.

Naminreb,

In 1984, “The Karate Kid” premiered in theaters…and the world has never been the same.

Naminreb,

Imagine if you could summon a football match two weeks later for the fouls/ penalties the other team committed and the referees missed…that’d be fun.

Naminreb,

To appeal, I think he has to pay a $65 Million bond, and this is certain to be reiterated. The jury did an excellent job at not being overly punishing. He’s screwed in so many ways. He better don’t ever mention her name again in his life.

Naminreb,

Instead of poor people: that’s how the layers work at least in Latin cultures.

The “Posh” one is how it works it British cultures. They’re different, but the second one in Hispanic cultures works the same for posh or poor people.

Naminreb,

Much like with Katrina, Acapulco has been completely destroyed.

Unlike Katrina, there’s absolutely zero support for the people of Acapulco. The Army or the Navy didn’t get there. There were no shelters. No food distribution, no local or state government.

While the Red Cross was able to get there, the government is now saying they won’t let humanitarian relief get there, and only the army will help…of course, the army wasn’t even able to get the president to Acapulco, because the idiot decided to go by land…and hit stuck in mud.

Homes in Acapulco are not insured, and the fund for disasters that the coincided to have to help in situations like this has been depleted.

I don’t condone stealing…but there are no food supplies and people needed to get something. The looters that took TVs, and such…personally I thought it was stupid…and then I realized something: In a video someone yelled: “Walmart is insured…”. These people know they have lost it all, and they will never get it back. There ways of providing for their family are gone. As a human, I don’t blame them from wanting to get back something…I think it’s kind of dumb…but now I get why they did it. Walmart will get paid, but their life’s are ruined.
