ZFS is really nice. I started experimenting with it when it was being introduced to FreeBSD, around 2007-2008, but only truly started using it last year, for two NASes (on Linux).

It's complex for a filesystem, but considering all it can do, that's not surprising.

A scene that is frequently mocked even though it's entirely correct!

I'm approaching 40, and it feels like I was 20 fairly recently. Hell, I still feel like I'm 25 years old.
It's scary as hell to think I'll be almost 60 in another 20 years, especially considering time feels faster and faster.

Those articles weren't saying humanity have 2-10 years to live. What are you on about?
1.5, 2 or more degrees of warning is going to suck, but do you seriously believe it's going to kill everyone on earth instantly?

Even if we keep going like more and don't slow down, billions of people will be alive in 50 years. And that's not downplaying climate change whatsoever, it's just staying away from absurd exaggerations.

I'm pretty sure they were referring to how the more common sizes are 1, 2, 4, 8, 10, 12 TB and so on. 6 is semi-common. 5 is relatively rare, so they probably didn't realize they exist.

I can't stand Musk, but SpaceX is going really well, so I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean... If you're referring to Starship, they didn't expect it to work 100% on the first few tries (unlike some media, who report on it as if they failed).

I'm mostly surprised I've almost never heard anyone complain about F minor, which IMO, 18 years later, is still a pain to play, if you need to play it over and over in a song. Getting the minor third on the G is a lot harder to me than any other common bar chord.

exscape,

What does that have to do with this article? I see no allegation that he was killed/hurt by anybody at all?

It also seems his death is not at all confirmed FWIW.

exscape,

Honestly, no. Kbin has been barely usable for a long time and I'm starting to consider giving up.
I have a notification waiting for me, but I get a 404 on the page to check it out. /sub also didn't work yesterday. I spent a few minutes trying to edit a comment just an hour ago.

Nothing against Ernest, a page of this size is hard to manage alone or almost alone, but it's still a pain as a user.

I've basically only been playing Noita since I started maybe 6 weeks ago. Harsh and unforgiving, but it gets better the more you learn.

I highly recommend looking while others play to learn, and reading up on the wiki (noita.wiki.gg, the fandom wiki is abandoned by the community). There is SO much that is basically impossible to figure out on your own, but it's so much fun. It's a much bigger game than you might think if you just jump in and play, too. Even 134 hours in I still have quite a few things I've never done.

I'm never giving it up out of principle, but I dunno about the RAM usage. Firefox was above 7GB last I looked. I have RAM to spare though, so I don't really care.

Hm, they're removable in about every case I've used in the past 20 years. I mostly use Fractal Design cases though, so I suppose it's something they tend to do.

Not sure if this is remotely on topic, but I think it's a good interpretation. There are big changes, but the overall plot follows the books well IMO.
There are issues in the books that wouldn't work on TV, at least not outside of China. Not to mention that maybe 90% of the book characters are Chinese. And perhaps over 90% are men. So I'm not at all bothered that there are major character changes.

How should I do backups?

I have a server running Debian with 24 TB of storage. I would ideally like to back up all of it, though much of it is torrents, so only the ones with low seeders really need backed up. I know about the 321 rule but it sounds like it would be expensive. What do you do for backups? Also if anyone uses tape drives for backups I am...

exscape,
exscape avatar

Helpful yes, but far from enough. It only helps in some scenarios (like accidental deletes, malware), but not in many others (filesystem corruption, multiple disks dying at once due to e.g. lightning, a bad PSU or a fire).

Offsite backup is a must for data you want to keep.

Sorry for the nitpick, but you probably mean GB/s (or GiB/s, but I won't go there). Gbps is gigabits per second, not gigabytes per second.
Since both are used in different contexts yet they differ by about a factor of 8, not confusing the two is useful.

exscape,
exscape avatar

That's in bytes. A modern NVMe drive can do about 7 GB/s (more than 10 for PCIe 5.0 drives). Even SATA could handle 5 Gbit/s, though barely.

Backdoor found in widely used Linux utility breaks encrypted SSH connections | Ars Technica (arstechnica.com)

TL;DR there was a backdoor found in the XZ program. All major distros have been updated but it is recommended that you do a fresh install on systems that are exposed to the internet and that had the bad version of the program. Only upstream distros were affected.

exscape,

What does this have to do with systemd? Aren't they safer in this situation because they aren't using the beta xz release?

My systems running Debian stable with systemd also aren't affected...

Wizards of the Coast 'Not to Blame' for Larian Leaving Baldur’s Gate 3 and D&D Behind, Swen Vincke Insists - IGN (www.ign.com)

“Reading the reddit threads, I would like to clear up something,” Vincke said. “WOTC is not to blame for us taking a different direction. On the contrary, they really did their best and have been a great licensor for us, letting us do our thing. This is because it’s what’s best for Larian.”

They're still working on a game they say is far bigger than BG3, though.

Prior to development on Baldur's Gate 3, Larian CEO Swen Vincke was already planning out the company's future, and this included what he calls "the very big RPG that will dwarf them all."

Speaking to GameSpot at GDC, Vincke explained that Larian's next game also won't actually be the aforementioned "very big RPG," but will be another step toward realizing it.

Teacher who resigned after her OnlyFans page was discovered says new employer fired her for violating social media policy (www.kbtx.com)

Had to supplement her $42,000 per year teacher salary with OF and made nearly $1 million in six months (almost 50 times as her salary) before the school caught wind of it and forced her to resign. Got a new job out of education and was fired five days later when they discovered news articles about her....

Most people need something to do. Being free all the time is rarely good for mental health.

You can make sudo password-less for a single command (including using specific arguments) though, so even if using sudo were the only solution, it wouldn't be that bad. For example, I have a sudoers entry that allows my user to decrypt my ZFS pool by executing a root-owned script (with permissions 700), but everything else requires a password.
