@tjhart85@kbin.social

lost my email because of Google 2FA

TL;DR, my computer broke because I spilled water onto it. I got a new phone recently and my number was changed, so I couldn't use that to log back in with 2-step verification, and I tried send it to my alternate email instead. It says I have to "wait 24 hours" but I never get the fucking verification email so apparently I have...

Too late for OP, but for everyone that can get into their accounts but doesn't know what the backup codes are, go here, select 'backup codes' and then keep them in a safe place.

OC Reddit's in-jokes and overall sense of "humor" are lame and I don't want to see them migrate to Kbin.

I like the overall lack of in-jokes I've encountered here so far, and I want things to stay that way. This might be an unrealistic thing to hope for, but I like good, pure, discussion, as boring as that may be for some people.

Reddit used to say 'the real life pro tip is always in the comments' or something to that effect.

Why shouldn't a comment that contributed, was genuinely useful or corrected information given by the post be able to naturally rise to the top?

I understand that we don't want "This is the way!" to become the highest top rated comment, but, in most threads useful top level comments get highlighted and off-top/factually incorrect/morally repugnant ones get punted to the bottom and ones that came late to the conversation are just floating in the middle (as compared to being at the end where chances of them ever being seen are even lower).

Didn't they do that intentionally to be compatible with Lotus 123?

Thanks for backing me up :-)

A link from MS as well, backing us up :-)

Furnace filters, so ... not really all that different from reality, but I don't need that many of them every month!

I love Bookstack!

The diagram tool can be used to markup anything. Besides the obvious, I've also put pictures as the background and then marked up those to diagram out some work I was doing around the house.

I hope the dev makes his way over here, he was very active on Reddit.

Female rats are way less likely to do that, ime though, they're also way less "chill" and are bundles of energy, so it's a bit of a trade-off

Pet/fancy rats have gone through some breeding selection to try and weed out aggressive behavior (or at least bites). With that said, a wildie can be just as friendly, but you'll want to be extra careful to try and curb negative behaviors.

I mean, the best "compromise" is for the person to do their fucking job.

If they have an objection to what is required to do their job, they're more than welcome to quit or begin looking for a position somewhere else that doesn't require them to perform the work that they're objecting to.

Yeah, I think at this point, regardless of what happens on Reddit, Lemmy/KBin seem to have a decently active base and speaking only for myself, I'm not planning on even lurking on Reddit ... the most I'll do is hit a link that I find on Google or that gets linked elsewhere.

For me, there is plenty of new content popping up in the Fediverse to keep me interested, I'd just like too see more people commenting. Then, I realize I need to be the change I want to see, so am attempting to become more active than I was on Reddit and actively engage in more conversations (ex: this post :-D ).

Shutting down the OASIS to me was the part that showed zero critical thought went into anything with the books and it was literally just GenX nostalgia and literally nothing more.

-Entire industries were created around the OASIS. This could cripple the smaller business while the larger ones can just absorb it.
-There are disabled folks that the OASIS may have been their refuge and only source of community.
-Poor people don't stop being poor, but now they've lost their free source of entertainment 2x a week.
-I don't remember if this was detailed, but there is a huge chance that basically all communications are funneled through the OASIS since it's just an extension of our internet.

When Internet goes out, think how you feel. Not imagine you live in the fucking stacks and are currently in a trailer 100ft above ground ... Wtf do you do?

But, no, gotta throw in a "need to touch grass" lesson in there with zero thought to the consequences of the world you created.

Yeah, that's a bit weird .... kind of cool too, like we're all just part of a big party with no initial way to divide without specifically looking. With that said, the possibilities of duplicates are high and the opportunity for fuckery is even higher, lol

One of the eventual goals of kbin is to be compatible with the rest of the fediverse and to "just work" with the rest of it. By way of comparison, Lemmy is basically just a federated Reddit, so, this is actually one of the reasons I chose to go with kbin.

From a practical standpoint, it'll likely be a while before that becomes a reality, but I like that as a goal.

I'd say see if you can search for the instance in the search (once we're 100% federated) and if it doesn't work and it's something you want to participate in, unfortunately, you'll need to go there directly.

Also - Your kbin.social account can only log into kbin.social, you can't use it to log into any other sites (this would include other kbin sites, lemmy sites, mastodon sites, etc...), what you can do is see content from those sites by subscribing to them or on the front page (non-subscribed)

I went the batshit crazy route and just set up an AD server for home.

Let's me gain some knowledge for work and ensure that every PC I configure at home 'just works' and if I've got to make changes to get something to actually fucking work, I only have to do it once.

A few of my linux servers auth through it too, which is pretty convenient, honestly.

Seems to have worked if all you posted was "Test post"

tjhart85,
tjhart85 avatar

I think I read that there is a bug with one of the apps for Lemmy (starts with a J, IIRC) that's causing that.

tjhart85,

Yeah, but if people were intentionally being trolls, it stands to reason that they'll hop on the next available open registration site and begin their shenanigans there, getting us banned too.

From what I've seen, for the most part the KBin magazines have been great, but we've definitely got a few people that I've seen that might intentionally start harassing trans people for instance and if they make lives difficult for the beehaw mods, we might get banned too just by association.

tjhart85,
tjhart85 avatar

From my perspective, I've basically left Reddit. Hypothetically, I 100% agree with you, but from a practical standpoint, I don't really care what happens over there.

tjhart85,
tjhart85 avatar

That's findable by search now! Since Ernest removed CloudFlare, Federation is getting a lot more interesting!

tjhart85,
tjhart85 avatar

Understood, wasn't trying to get you to doxx your sub or anything, just figured your post was a missed opportunity to plug your magazine, but that makes sense you need too get your ducks in a row first.

tjhart85,
tjhart85 avatar

KBin is the only site that knows your KBin password, so you won't be able to use it directly to log in elsewhere.

Easiest would be to anonymously visit the other sites and then do a search and subscribe on KBin for the subs you like to bring them into your feed.

I did that to bring my Mastadon stuff in to see if I can use KBin as a pane of glass to see everything or I'm better off just keeping them separate (juries still out, probably need to wait until this server stops getting slammed).

ETA: if someone knows a better way, please correct me! I would love to learn an easier way. So far, I think it's just manual checking and people making lists that they share.
