Yikes: First Ugandan charged with 'aggravated homosexuality' punishable by death - a formerly respectable country where you can be executed for being who you are or choosing who to love. From what I’ve read, US evangelicals have a large share of responsibility for pushing these draconian laws. https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/first-ugandan-charged-with-aggravated-homosexuality-punishable-by-death-2023-08-28/

I want to say this: To ‘adapt’ to is, ultimately, to forget… to become complacent and compliant. Though we are forced to adapt by one after another, we must focus on what we had, and what we need, really need to preserve. Mass extinction events are on the way. The will prompt massive migrations as portions of the planet become unlivable due to heat and sea level rise decimates vast heavily settled coastal regions. is progressing apace, and it appears there does not exist the political will to do anything substantial about it. I don’t want to adapt, I want the process reversed.

What Really Took Down Airbnb - TL;dr The housing market. But what has really done to the housing market? One major study found that a 1 percent increase in Airbnb listings led to a 0.02 percent increase in rental prices and a 0.03 percent increase in sale prices. That might not sound like much, but it adds up. A report from the New York City comptroller confirmed that Airbnb fueled rent increases in neighborhoods… https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/10/airbnb-new-york-housing-market-can-match/675561/

In honor of and the I’m posting our two feline sisters, litter-mates that couldn’t be more different. They share coloration, but literally nothing else. One is a long-hair, chill, slow-moving couch potato; the other is a short-hair, hyperactive, mischief maker intent on escaping out the door - even though both enjoy a large ‘catio’ on our family room deck. So meet Safi, short for Saffron; and her sister Coco. Coco is the long-hair.

Thai court denies bail for lawyer who called for monarchy reforms and now faces four years in prison for ‘insulting’ the monarchy. I want to like I really do. Lovely country, lovely people. But any country that puts a respected lawyer in jail for four years for suggesting reforms to the monarchy is the WORST type of autocracy. And the country has a fake democracy, in that the military prevents anyone elected that they don’t like from taking office. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/thai-court-denies-bail-lawyer-who-called-monarchy-reforms-2023-09-30/
