Homeless outreach groups seeing increase in people staying at Milwaukee Park & Ride (www.wisn.com)
Going into the fall, sleeping outdoors becomes a lot more difficult. Hopefully Milwaukee can get them housed before it starts getting cold....
DemocracySpot, #Milwaukee | Yesterday, in the build-up to the GOP "debate" I thought about Milwaukee. About the time I visited my Uncle and Aunt in Waukesha in 1967, and Laverne & Shirley and Happy Days and Jeffrey Dahmer—finally The Violent Femmes and Trixie Mattel.
I did NOT know Ms. Trixie recorded "Blister in the Sun!" Well done :-)
That's the backstory to this post. 😂
michaelsteeber, Some #milwaukee shots from over the weekend. The “out” sign pointing at I-794 is my favorite, because that spur needs to go.
JayLittle, Watching the Republican "debate" is like watching a new remake of Jerry Springer with fascism and suits thrown into the mix.
Not gonna lie... I love trash TV so I'm loving this shitshow.
jeramey, A streetcar extension approved in 2015 is finally opening in #milwaukee, sort of. https://urbanmilwaukee.com/2023/08/22/lakefront-streetcar-extension-opens-october-29
steinbring, I took this photo in Milwaukee's Walker’s Point neighborhood, back in 2013. That was before the camera in my phone was any good. I miss this mural. I really liked it.

rasterweb, I think it's very clear that Arrow Crete just took their 2008 stamp and made the 8 into a 9.
A sidewalk square stamped 2009 but the 9 used to be an 8.

linux_mclinuxface, @rasterweb 🤷♂️ I guess an angle grinder isn’t too hard to use, but if I had to create a new (likely brass) stamp every year, you bet I’d make it customizable for multiple years.
rasterweb, @linux_mclinuxface I'm guessing there isn't much innovative thinking happening in the concrete slab pouring industry.
rasterweb, Hey Friends, @isaacrowlett posts lots of really interesting stuff about Milwaukee. Give him a follow!
voron, Freaking #GOP debate in #milwaukee #Wisconsin tonight yippee 😒
And they are having the #republican convention in Milwaukee
My question is why the hell isn’t the Dem state AG on the stick like #michigan & #georgia !
joe, @voron I thought that it wasn't until the 23rd?
voron, @joe ahh you are correct I was listening to a podcast which got it wrong (the muckrake podcast) usually reliable and I posted before double checking thank you!
mathiasx, I wonder if I tag both #milwaukee and #bikes or #cycling, if we could get enough people local to Milwaukee together here on the fediverse to arrange a group ride?
I haven’t used Facebook in years and some people used Reddit or Discords in the past, but I’m trying to avoid those completely too. So, who wants to ride?
joe, Who else is going to DevCon Midwest, next week?

MVHegemony,
I really don't understand the person who thinks "I accept that I can't wear my shoes through the scanners or bring a bottle of water but I'm sure they will be cool with my loaded gun." Do you think that you are going to need to shoot someone somewhere between the Chili's in Concourse C and the gate?
rasterweb, I find using this Milwaukee Lemmy community much better now that I've blocked the dude who just posts links to shootings in the city every chance he gets.
I mean, yeah, they happen, it's a large city with a lot of people, but there's also some good stuff happening, so maybe take a break sometimes? (Or, you know, just block him like I did!)
asile, Library folks: Marquette U has an opening for an early/mid career STEM research/instruction librarian. Please help us spread the word (and/or apply)!

cenbe, How long before something like this happens at the #Milwaukee air show?
https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/13/us/thunder-over-michigan-air-show-crash/index.html
cenbe, @joe And when you have an air show over a heavily populated area...
joe, @cenbe I would guess that is the reason why Milwaukee does theirs over the lake
When this photograph was taken in about 1888, Milwaukee had nearly 200,000 residents, making it the 16th-largest city in America.
It's nice to see him paying attention to Milwaukee....
michaelsteeber, (edited ) Another sweetgreen soft opening today, this time at The Corners of Brookfield near #Wauwatosa. This is sweetgreen’s second Wisconsin location, the third is coming later this year near UW Madison. #Milwaukee

rasterweb, Maker Faire Milwaukee is set for November 4th & 5th, 2023 and while I was a "performer" last year (I made noise and weird art in a dark room) I just don't know what to do this year...
I mean, I used to run the Faire, but should I just exhibit now? What should I show? Should I make more weird art that can stand alone? (I think I had 7 exhibits back in 2019.)
This is a weird feeling I don't know what to do with.
cenbe, Traffic shaping has begun on Brady St, on #Milwaukee's East Side.
jeramey, Who's got some cash so I can buy The Sentinel Building? https://urbanmilwaukee.com/2023/08/10/four-milwaukee-buildings-headed-to-auction-block/ #milwaukee
steinbring, @brennansv @jeramey Sometimes it's for the best if someone with deeper pockets can keep it maintained.
brennansv, @steinbring @jeramey This is my concern. The richer are now snapping up more property. Buildings and homes are going to those with deeper pockets. The owner of The Iron Horse Hotel had the passion to create something great. Will the next owner only care about turning a profit?
