I’ve been watching this documentary series about #Munich between the 60s and the early 90s, and I’m like “No way this place was so crazy hip and cool, what happened to it?”
Was it something locals did not like continuing? Because, I’m left with the impression that in those days folks came to Munich, because it was the party paradise in all #Germany. Now it’s the upper middle class work capital of the Universe, which has its upsides, but … man, what a transformation.
I'm there for work (a cool #OpenScience event organised by @HeidiSeibold) so sadly I won't have tonnes of capacity for socialising (otherwise I'd be #CouchSurfing) but I will have some capacity, and all the #Airbnb options look pretty dull and soulless...
I didn’t have my phone to record how eerily quiet one of #Munich’s central streets felt today. No kids, no adults, just an empty street under the summer sun. I know, everyone is probably on vacation, but still, if someone’s told me that #Germany’s third largest city could feel that empty at times, I wouldn’t have believed it. And, I still refuse to believe it , even after 8 years living here.
I asked a German colleague about it, and apparently they sell chairs and couches. The name make perfect sense in that context. But sadly it wasn’t likely that smart, as “ass” apparently means “ace” in German.

Taking a break from my vacation(!) tomorrow and flying to #Munich 🇩🇪 to attend the #Kubernetes community days conference. I have two talks to give, but beside that I’m looking forward just attend and enjoy my time there. Not often that I get to to that, despite going to so many events each year. There’s a summer storm in #Munich. So naturally I’ve put all empty buckets and pots on the balcony, trying to catch some rain, so I can use it to water the plants tomorrow 💪
WRT #HeatRecords. This year on new years eve we had 20°C in #Munich. That was quite unusual, to put it mildly. Below zero would have been more likely. 5-10°C maybe a bit unusual but not that weird. But 20°C? Seems almost everyone has forgotten about this, not even 6 months later :(
