cloudpiep, German Made a #memoryquilt for my Mum out of six flannel shirts of my recently deceased Dad.
The backing is a fluffy blanket, the binding made of two of his dress shirts.
My dad was a sewist too, he would be so proud.

miramusank, Sewing this convertible Patrick Kelly one-seam coat using the pattern provided by Philadelphia Museum of Art leads me to learn more about the brilliant American designer.
Now whenever I wear this coat (made with Fibershed’s Climate Beneficial Collaborative Cloth), I am reminded of his legacy of joy and love.
You can read about how I made #patrickkelly one-seam coat here:

miramusank, Thank you @jquillin! I have not met one person who dislike this coat. I wish we were able to see more of Patrick Kelly’s designs.
jquillin, @miramusank it’s amazing!

morganelafait, French @sewing is there anyone moderating a.gup.pe groups, a ton of spam from nazis these days?
micheal65536, @morganelafait @sewing afaik they don't get moderated, they're just "repeaters" that send back out any posts that get sent in.
sewblue, @morganelafait @sewing Same.
I think the trolls/spam bots have figured out weakness in automated re-boost accounts.
Without an algorithm to game, exploiting re-boost accounts are way easier to quickly gain eyeballs.
miramusank, I’m really proud to be part of Fibershed Design Challenge, that concluded earlier this week with a final showcase. I presented 4 garment prototypes that are made with regionally sourced textiles, have design longevity and zero waste pattern in mind. I hope there will me more opportunities like this in the future!
Check out latest newsletter issue to have the deets on all four garment prototypes.

alexisbushnell, I'd Google this problem but I don't know what to Google so please be patient with me @sewing . Does this mean I'm not moving the material fast enough at the start so it's all sewing on top of each other?
I'm using an old Singer G105 sewing machine if that makes any difference and I have literally no idea what I'm doing.
FrightenedRat, @alexisbushnell @sewing
The tension may need fiddling with. But also, when you start sewing hold both threads (bobbin + needle) pulled away from you quite firmly, and maintain that tension for quite a while till there's enough stitches to stop the tail end of the threads from being tugged and snarled.
❤️
alexisbushnell, @FrightenedRat @sewing I did not even know I was supposed to be holding them so that is very helpful! Thank you

Shkshkshk, Which waterproof fabric is best?
I have discovered cloaks, and I am going nuts making them. I have bought so much fabric in the past few days alone. They are so warm and so easy to make! However, I would like to make one that suits the purpose for which they were invented, so that I may wear it outside in the rain. Are there any good waterproof fabrics that won't fuck up my fiancée's #sewing machine?
Asking here because I don't know what I am doing.
Shkshkshk, Currently thinking of using boiled wool. It seems the best overall. Thanks for pointing me towards it!
Peppycito, Sunbrella is not self-healing like a cotton cloth is, holes poked through it remain holes. But that’s the case with most fabric and probably any waterproof ones.
Using a pin as a fastener as a replacement for a button is probably a poor choice for any cloth over time. That’s likely why buttons were invented. Look into frog fasteners if you’re that worried about leakage. Most cloaks I’ve seen have frogs. Maybe pin it to a button hole if you need to use the pin.
Shkshkshk, A Better Question
In an earlier post (https://dice.camp/@Shkshkshk/111633486456196055) I asked about waterproof fabrics I could use in my next ruana cloak. I got lots of wonderful feedback, but I just thought of a new problem: at some point, I might decide to use a cloak pin to fasten it. I don't know of any waterproof fabric that can heal from having a pin poked through the middle of it. Are there any at least water resistant fabrics that can handle being pinned?
glowl, @Shkshkshk create dedicated holes for the pin? maybe even with an extra layer in the immediate surrounding fabric for added strength?
patterfloof, @glowl @Shkshkshk something oldschool like waxed cloth? Where the waterproofing can be reapplied by hand (and work into the hole)

Polyhymnia, Ok #WeekendSewingClub votes please! I've almost finished my winter party dress (with shades of a C18 wrapping gown/piratical banyan)... but what colour buttons should I use? Option 1, soft green, perfectly pick up the colours of the leaves, or option 2, dark pink, which go more with the base colour. Both types of buttons are 15mm in diameter, so don't affect the size of buttonhole to be set. @sewinguk @sewing
Button option 2, dark pink 4-hole corozo nut buttons, with slightly recessed central holes, and a wide flat border. Shown against the dress fabric. Several (17) buttons in the picture.
Button option 1, soft darkish green 4-hole corozo buttons, with a narrow raised rim, shown against the dress fabric. Several (many-many-many-two) buttons in the picture.

morganelafait, French Bonjour ici, ça faisait longtemps.

kamikat, (edited ) @sewing @sewing Another #hemlockhoodie dress. I love this pattern but will I get sick of wearing it?
