Ugh. One kid's teacher left partway through the day because she was symptomatic. Happy holidays! Said kid is the only one in his class that wears a mask. One of about 10 in the whole school.

Baked over 150 cookies Saturday in preparation for a cookie decorating afternoon with friends. 4 different recipes ( chocolate sugar cookies(vegan), gingerbread cookies ( vegan), lemon sugar cookies(dairy free), and vegan sugar cookies).
Made vegan frostings: royal icing ( various colours) and buttercream (green)
Had much silly fun! Happy HoHo!

Made a small batch of nut-free macarons with mediocre Swiss meringue buttercream- will try again in the future with different frosting. Pretty happy with them overall for a first attempt!

Another from mom’s dress to new vision! And she even used mom’s jacket at her wedding!
The original bodice had cap sleeves. I reshaped it to deep Vs and added French lace for texture and side mesh for an up to date look.
The tulle overskirt with the train was added as a removable piece, using some of the original fabric for the waistband.
Using dead stock and collected pieces I had already was such a great way to make this project even more sustainable!

Winter impressions from my morning run. It‘s really cold as soon as you’re out of the sun, but at the same time I marvel at the beauty of the sheer whiteness of my surroundings.

One of my brides shared some photos post wedding- the first was taken day 1- her mom’s dress that she could have worn as it, but she had a vision in mind! Photo 2 is from the big day- modifying the neckline, sleeves, and waistline to personalize it for her was an in depth adventure! Tested this vegan sugar cookie recipe:

Modified it by using lemon juice instead of vanilla and coconut cream( scooped off the settled milk in the can) instead of coconut oil for the “eggnog” icing.
Small batch-15 cookies at about 5 cm across and including the frosting 150 calories per cookie.
Easy and very nice flavour with only 3 tablespoons of sugar in the actual cookies- without frosting, they would still be tasty.

the top of the photo is the fixed- basted version after spending an hour carefully removing ironed-on hemming tape- will have a fitting to ensure it falls correctly tomorrow. The skirt is bias cut woven fabric and the lining is lightweight knit.
The bottom is what arrived in my studio this morning after a desperate phone call I had with the client last night.

    A little sewing porn for the fabric wranglers! Lookit this little green beast! He said it was probably 40 or 50 years old. Still stitches great! No air threading, obviously. :) I didn’t realize home sergers were that old (or that Baby Lock had been around that long?).

    It gives me the same warm, glowy machine love feelings I used to feel for my Volkswagens. I want to bring it home, name it, and sew for days.

    somehow, this post made me think of @WTL

    On the way to grocery shopping today, we bought some cotton-linen to make more reusable napkins for everyday use. I really don’t want to make more right now, (I have a lot of funner things on my list), but we’re now back to using too many paper napkins lately, so we need them. I usually do plain wide hems with mitred corners, but thinking about maybe using some decorative stitches or machine to make it more interesting? Or not…?… @sewing

    When I taught dance classes, videos helped me and my students remember and refine. As a sewing teacher, when I started 3 years back, I realized the same tool would also help me and my students. So I exclusively create content for my full time sewing students at Richard Robinson Fashion Academy, and sometimes I’m just showing off…
