Just saw a really irritating anti-remote work chart crime from #Gallup making the rounds on twitter, from an article claiming that "The most worrying finding in the latest survey -- especially in a workplace that is increasingly hybrid and remote -- is that employees who can do their work remotely have an eroding connection to the mission or purpose of the organization."
Discussing the British Press, and I'm reminded of the time when I had a moderate amount of celebrity in the UK LGBT community, and the press tried to do a hit piece on me.
Now here's the thing. There's a cheat code, and I'm going to explain what it is:
They will contact you for comment.
If you say nothing, they will publish the piece and say you were offered the chance to comment.
If you tell them to fuck off, they will publish the price and say your response was foul and unprintable.
I did neither of these things. I told them that this piece wasn't journalism. It was ridiculous tittle tattle and represented everything that was wrong with a failing and dying industry more obsessed with clickbait than proper reporting. I asked them if they didn't have proper news to report, and said that they should be ashamed of themselves.
They're basically screwed at that point. "We contacted Ms Brown for comment and she said that this was ridiculous tittle tattle and that the reporter should be ashamed of herself."
They're not gonna say that.
I'm struck by something one of my history teachers once said about medieval castles. They weren't meant to be impregnable. They were meant to be annoying enough that an invading army would decide to investigate other priorities instead.
The piece never ran.
If you're a trans person in the crosshairs of the British press, make yourself an annoying target. They're on a deadline, and if you make them conclude that life is too short, they will leave you the fuck alone.

If this seeking of a conclusion was your intention, that is also a belittlement of the original problem. It implies that she shouldn't state the problem if she hasn't already figured out the solution
I think it's pretty obvious why that attitude sucks
But for the avoidance of doubt, that attitude sucks because it prevents the crowd sourcing of solutions, and it prevents people expressing themselves
Is there anything I can do against my smoothie's tendency to separate into juice below and semi-solid foam gunk above? Especially milk-based smoothies (as opposed to juice-based).
I just toss all the ingredients and the liquid base into the blender and run it at top speed until it seems sufficiently mixed. Anything I should change about that?
My smoothies usually contain some mixture of banana, raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, and blackberry, on a base of either milk or orange juice. Sometimes slight seasoning (some sugar, some cocoa, some coffee, some honey, whatever I feel like). Are any of these ingredients particularly foam-causing?
@amberage not everyone would be comfortable with this, but I find adding a raw egg works wonders. It dramatically improves the consistency, and also adds protein and minerals and stuff

@mhoye@alter_kaker@mekkaokereke I think part of it is that there are things it would be reasonable for them to be afraid of (eg climate change), but they don't want to be afraid of that, for whatever reason, and the fear has to go somewhere

and I definitely liked that I could tell when he'd finished asking the question, which had been a problem a few times in the past
Overall I liked Amol as the new presenter, especially his open admiration of Henderson when she got that music question so quickly
