Hol up, the UK voters gave 12 points to Israel?

A-mazing…

What a shithole rock full of cunts I live on.

@DJDarren Nah, it’s mostly the gammons participating. Rubbing themselves into a frenzy because they think they ‘showed the woke’ when anyone with a conscience was doing something else tonight and really wasn’t paying attention.

It's strange to me when I see people get upset about people doing good deeds, and posting it online.

"They're just doing it for attention!"

Yeah, so what? I'd much rather see people doing nice things for attention, than the people who do mean pranks or wasting food. A good deed is still good, even if it's done for the wrong reasons.

crinolinerobot,
@crinolinerobot@bytetower.social avatar

@RickiTarr Also, the alternative is that all we see is the awful stuff, the hatemongering and cruelty, and so that becomes the new normal. I’d rather see people doing good things and that becoming the baseline.

People who criticise the visibly decent could well fear their own awfulness being highlighted by contrast. Hence the attempts to cover up a lot of basic human decency under a pall of ‘woke’.

The UK government is being particularly dreadful to trans people BUT if you're cis and need the prospect of your rights being threatened next to support trans people now, you're a bit of a self-interested shit. Support trans people because love and support are wonderful things to give, not because you might need to receive a bit of love and support yourself at some point.

Love you, trans pals

Been reading a thread about Britain’s ‘obesity epidemic’, and it’s amazing how many thin people know how to fix it.

People clamber over themselves to wax lyrical about how we should encourage more exercise (we should), and how fast food joints should be held to account (they should), but the loudest voices never talk about it being a mental health issue.

I’m a fat fuck, I know I should exercise more and eat better. I did that for a year once and lost 30kg. Then I put it all back on again.

crinolinerobot,
@crinolinerobot@bytetower.social avatar

@DJDarren There's also the issue that people on the lowest incomes are more likely to live places where the parks have been built over/there's limited public space, the kids' schools don't have playing fields. And the streets aren't particularly safe.

I know my TSH levels would have me treated for thyroid issues in other countries. So the NHS will have to put up with me being fat and sleepy, because they're the ones saying This Is Fine.

Spent the afternoon in my #sewing room, making a pattern out of an existing pyjama top for my wife. I still need to trace out the sleeve, but I’m happy with my progress so far. Slow but steady. @sewing

A large cutting table littered with oak tag pieces and various pattern drafting tools; you can see the front and back pattern pieces close to the front, with the scrunched up pyjama top near the back.

Dracula Daily?
While browsing my local library's online items, I stumbled on this. I had never heard of Dracula daily - did anyone participate? What did you think? I expect it will take place this year..

@bookstodon
#books #epistolary #vampire

Let's read Dracula together! We'll start on May 3rd and each day, read only what happens to the characters on that day. Sound good? Let’s go. Bram Stoker’s Dracula is an epistolary novel—it’s made up of letters, diaries, telegrams, newspaper clippings—and every part of it has a date. The whole story happens between May 3rd and November 6th. Dracula Daily, however, is a lightly remixed adaptation. I've rearranged Dracula to be strictly chronological, divided into days, so we can get all the characters experiences as the story happens. It was originally started in 2021 as an email newsletter. You sign up at draculadaily.com and get an email each day that something happens to the characters in the same timeline that it happens to them. Some days theres a lot of activity, some days just a few sentences, and many days nothing at all. You only get an email when there’s action taking place in Dracula. But this book is a handy way to get the same experience on paper. You can read along with Jonathan and Mina and Jack and the crew in ‘real time; using the innovative technology of a ribbon bookmark. Start on May 3rd. Stop when you get to the end of that day. Place your bookmark there, and pick up the book again on May 4th. Voila! The stretched-out reading cadence of Dracula Daily—some days with only a few paragraphs, some days a whole <...> You'll feel the distances and durations the characters traverse. Fair warning: you'll need to set aside a lot of time for October 3rd.

crinolinerobot,
@crinolinerobot@bytetower.social avatar

@Da_Gut @bookstodon I did it a couple of years ago, and it was a great - even if you know the book well, experiencing it in real time, and with the log of the Demeter running alongside other incidents rather than being hived off separately, gives the narrative a very different feel. You really feel the anxiety of not knowing what's happening to some characters. (And can marvel at the post being delivered twice a day...)

    📽️ What's a horror movie that you feel is so: striking, unique, disturbing, profound, &/or beautiful that it transcends to the level of ART?
    (Not for just a scene, or moments, or even a performance, but for the ENTIRE film.)

    Four that immediately occurred to me:

    The Shining
    The Devils
    The Wolf House
    There Will Be Blood

    I can think of more but I'm curious what YOU all think...

    I have to go eat & do stuff but I'll be back on later to see what you all said!

    I posted my vid from Saturday's Gaza Ceasefire demo on YT and, predictably, got told to go to Palestine / stop supporting terrorism / it's a complex situation I don't know about.

    2023: when there are apparently two sides to murdering babies.

    This is how much Israel has poisoned the discourse - we're discussing whether it's okay for Israel to murder babies??

    IF you agree with Israel and think that it is a discussion - you are lost. And insane.

    crinolinerobot,
    @crinolinerobot@bytetower.social avatar

    @Jyoti How anyone can see those poor kids and not think a ceasefire is needed immediately is beyond me.

    crinolinerobot,
    @crinolinerobot@bytetower.social avatar

    @Jyoti Pretty much everyone is silent about what's been happening in Burma/Myanmar since the military coup (now over 1,000 days ago) and it infuriates me. (I don't tend to talk about it so much on Masto, but do on my other social media.) I have to tell myself that people do care, and they don't owe it to me to show they're caring where I can see it, because otherwise what looks like indifference would be too much.
