ThunderHoneySnow, French Managed 40km/1100m elevation in the pouring rain and unexpectedly cold temperatures before DNFing. Absolutely nailed nutrition, hydration, plan, pace, & HR but I couldn't stay warm. Sucks but I'm not built for the cold, I was expecting warmth/heat today. I am rolling into a training block for a 50k in August and wondering if I could fit in a solo attempt at the 80km in the fall. It would be a shame to waste all this readiness.

JustBrogrammer, I just found out my race is only 4,600m EG. I know that's still a lot but it's way better than the 5,500m I thought it was.
Suddenly the opportunity to become over confident has arrived and I don't want to waste it.
Next Tuesday is my double run day and I'm thinking Mica and Antoine Peak repeats. I will withhold my overconfidence until after that.
#UltraRunning #Running
mlawton, @JustBrogrammer ha! the time for overconfidence is nigh!
pavsaund, Hello #ultrarunning friends! How would you prepare for a 50-mile race that starts at midnight?
I seldom go to bed before 23:00, so trying to get extra sleep the day of the race is probably going to fail, but I'm open to hearing your personal strategies!
erikavaris, 50k attempt tomorrow on the Backbone, and it’s scheduled to rain but only .4”, so fingers crossed!
I’ve got snacks prepped and socks darned. Just need to scrape out the dried mud from my shoes from last time.

amerpie, After 12.5 hours on her sore and blistered feet, Wonder Woman elected to take the finisher’s medal for the 50-mile distance and call it a day. Many thanks to all who offered support through the race. #ultrarunning
amerpie, Changing shoes and socks and doctoring blisters before miles 36-48. #ultrarunning
peter, Nice update! Is there a time limit for gear change and how do you know where to meet?
amerpie, That’s about 75 miles worth of food and water. Wonder Woman (Mrs. Amerpie)is ahead of schedule after the first 12-mile loop and back out on the course. #ultrarunning
amerpie, @greg She's on lap three/eight, middle of the pack, complaining a little with her hip but otherwise doing fine. Thanks!
greg, @amerpie what lap is she on?

peter, Nice! What is considered ultra?
rcheesley, A fun couple of days on the #Endure24 training plan - 1 hour aerobic endurance run yesterday and 44 minute tempo run late tonight at the gym!
10 weeks until the race when I'm aiming to complete 50 miles in 24 hours and raise a bunch of cash for the lovely peeps at #Breathworks.
Getting very real as Sunday's run is 4 hours long ... Haven't done that long in about 18 months!

saaste, Finnish Olen seurannut tätä projektia alusta asti ja pitäähän tätä nyt suositella muillekin.
Brittiläinen ultrajuoksija Russel Cook eli Hardest Geezer aloitti Afrikan halki juoksemisen noin 10 kuukautta sitten.

Pitkien matkojen lenkeissä ehdottomasti suurin haasteeni on ravinto.
saaste, Finnish @rolle Sinulla on päivityksistä päätellen tosi hyvät pohjat.
teufen, With all the BM100 excitement going on, I almost forgot:
last Sunday marked my 5years anniversary as an ultrarunner. I ran my first 50km on 2019-03-17: North C Trail. 🥳🏃Since then, I haven't stopped running. I've run 31 +50km runs, both in races and self-organized adventures. I read books and articles, engaged in online and live discussions and exchanged information about ultrarunning.
Some might say I got addicted.
I intend to continue on this path!
rcheesley, 11 weeks until #Endure24 and it's time for another fitness test (aka 44 minutes of pure evil!) to kick off the final phase ... Did better than I was expecting given I've had several weeks off so I could cope with all the travel without my body crashing and burning!
Now to get my head down and focus on pushing out the long runs so I'll be able to finish the planned 50 miles in 24 hours in June!
Currently recruiting a crew, sponsors can support at https://www.breathworks-mindfulness.org.uk/ruth-endure24
Johan_Barelds, @rcheesley Great website you have and what a journey you already made! Inspiring 🏃💥💪😃
rcheesley, @Johan_Barelds ahh thanks! Yes it's been quite a journey to get to this point and I'm grateful every day to the folks who've supported me along the way!
JustBrogrammer, I have about 9 hours of footage to go through and edit but I found a section of the raw footage that is not horrible.
The cliff edges look a lot scarier than they do in person but I might have just been focusiong on the beauty out there at the time.
JustBrogrammer, Hell's Canyon by the numbers. My goal was to be out for at least 10 hours and be able to maintain energy throughout. This was a huge success and I'm so happy with it.
#HellsCanyon #UltraRunning #TrailRunning #Running
mlawton, @JustBrogrammer well done! 👏 🎉
JustBrogrammer, Hells canyon in the books. I got to run a bit with the group and run the second half and my race. I was able to stay out for almost 10 hours jumping into zone 2 with an aerobic push every now and then.. I needed a little convincing at the end from my new friend but the leg check for the last few km went great. I had power and dexterity in my feet to zoom down and up the rocks and finish strong.
10/10 would recommend.
#HellsCanyon #UltraRunning #TrailRunning #Runningview of the trail climbing up with 1 side a rock wall and the other a straight deep down 10m or so. the sun is shining
Selfie of me with my running group. my water spigot appears to be attacking me. in the background you can see the snake river between Idaho and Oregon
view of the snake river from 5m or so high. you can see down the trail and the river disappears behind some rocks.
WTL, @JustBrogrammer Soubds like a wonderful time! Nicely done!
officehippy, I love Beau Miles’s videos and his latest series on YouTube reflecting on the Western colonisation of Australia through an #ultrarunning journey is a delightful masterclass in storytelling from a funny and very likeable #ultrarunner. Also, if anyone knows what the music is in part 3 of the series between 4:15 and 5:15 please let me know. I like it👍🏼 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3Wc52QgnNhY&pp=ygUKYmVhdSBtaWxlcw%3D%3D
wplate, Signed up for the Canadian Death Race in August! I’m excited, this has been on my list for a long time.
wplate,
WTL, @wplate @mathias No, that was me. Besides, you’ll be in Alberta, around 3,500 km from good poutine. Years ago, we travelled from here (Ottawa) to Gaspé on the east coast of Quebec, and I decided it would be wise to have poutine at every stop (I was considerably larger than I am now). Quality really started to drop off east of Montreal, so we're in what I call “the poutine sweet-spot”. 🤣
moelholm, ❓🙋🏼♂️Training Effect of 50M vs 50K
As part of an ultra plan I see 2 major tune up races: a 50K and a 50M.
Would you think that the physical adaptations are “much better” for the 50M than the 50K?
(Or, are they primarily non -physical; hydration, nutrition, mental, …)
Background: For the 50M tune up race - I have a 50K option only to choose from here in DK around the weeks of interest. So I was considering that … or … instead DYI 50M (not the same “fun” perhaps)
WTL, @moelholm I was extremely puzzled by a 50 metre race as part of ultra training. 🤣 I did figure it out…
jaredbyrd, That session was spicy! 3 x 10 min tempo pace while the snow came down and the black metal was on point. 6:10-6:12 for each interval and not wearing super shoes. Proud of that one.
WTL, @jaredbyrd Nicely done! Music can really help for speed.
ThunderHoney, January is here! A fresh 30 day yoga journey!
Pup joined me on the mat until I pressed play and then she hopped into her chair at the end of my mat to snooze.
Yoga practice 1065. I went from an intermittent yoga practice to an everyday yoga practice doing a Yoga With Adriene 30 day yoga journey. I did the 30 days and kept on going. This year's theme is flow! It's a free yoga series that you can find on YT.
Enjoyed today's practice, felt really good after the intervals on today's run. Trying to be really present in my runs and on the mat. Twenty weeks out from Sulphur Springs 80km. Focus and flow time!

ThunderHoneySnow, Switched to HR Zone 2 training about 20 months ago. I run farther but slower. Watch is always suggesting runs by pace and I guffaw at the paces! Watch is also always complaining about low anaerobic. I let the watch have its way today and did intervals by pace.
Woot! So much fun! My legs LOVED it! It felt great and way easier to execute than intervals by HR zone! I will let the watch have intervals from now on!
teufen, I ran Bello Gallico 100 miles race last Saturday.
It was the hardest thing I ever ran. I had fun.For a full race report, see: https://gist.github.com/Teufen/2e7d759d0df00cedafb57ade44647bf7
WTL, @teufen Wow that’s impressive! Tough call about the blister. I think I’d have done the same as you.
mlawton, @teufen absolutely amazing! 🎉 👏
Your race report was a fascinating read. I particularly enjoyed reading about your decisions and coping strategies. The mental discipline required is incredible.
teufen, Tomorrow at 04:00 I will start my first 100mile race: Bello Gallico (in Belgium).
All is ready: backpack, dropbag and athlete.
For those who want to, you can follow my adventures on https://ferrett.io/u/teufen/bg100m thanks to my personal ferret.
