superdavjer, When you hear the phrase "married assassin" what vehicle do you imagine them driving? The assassin is a queer woman. Not ninja assassin either. Hired killer assassin.
shippychaos, @superdavjer Charcoal sedan of some kind - maybe bmw if they’re fancy, Honda Civic if they’re not
shippychaos, @superdavjer Gotta blend in if you’re an assassin. No red Camaro or whatever
That_One_Guy, I've come across a few new cars (Fiat) in Missouri for around $20k, not something you see very often anymore. I'm debating whether to make the drive to look or not. Rates are still high but my credit union threw me a bone on financing, a couple points under national average. This car would be driven by me for 4 yrs then given to our daughter at 16, I think in long terms.
Has anyone seen any new cars for that price with an interest rate under 4%? I'd like to hear about it if so.
CultureDesk, The 1998 Fiat Multipla is almost always included on clickbaity listicles about the ugliest ever cars. The Autopian's Adrian Clarke makes the case for why its design, while aesthetically challenging, was actually brilliant. "A constant criticism of car design I hear a lot is the ‘form should follow function’ bulls***," he writes. "Be careful what you wish for, because the Multipla is what you could end up with."

LibrarianRA, @rednikki Yes, the size, and the black vinyl seats are what I remember. Going to the beach and having it sit under the sun all day. Ouch!

mobilitydimarca, #Bilbao registers one million fewer #cars in the first quarter of 2024 with respect to the same period in 2019.
This was achieved mainly thanks to the #Sustainable #Urban #Mobility Plan.
Initially implemented in 2015, the SUMP seeks to promote mobility that is less dependent on the car and more inclined towards sustainable alternatives. such as public transport, #bicycles and #pedestrian mobility.

Keep taxing them and build better public transit facilities!
davidzipper, In Fast Company, I wrote about how wild it is that Ford, GM, and Stellantis no longer offer any sedan models in the US.
That's bad for Americans -- and it's risky for the Big Three.

Neblib, @Slyence @cykonot @davidzipper I think an important clarification is "Americans who buy new cars" as that's the only customer that car makers care about, despite the used market being twice as large. Another point is the data is hard to read with CAFE and tarrifs manipulating the margins of profitability. I predict these trends are going to accelerate with the hemespheric competition going on as well as inflation.
Neblib, @Slyence @cykonot @davidzipper that being said, the used market reflects the new market, and 2023 top sold 1-5 year old models is mostly trucks and SUVs. Also I think Hatchback > sedan, so I'd be okay with better smaller hatchbacks too.

drahardja, If you’re a #cars guy in the #sfba, you’ve probably heard of Alice’s restaurant in La Honda. I went up there recently and I saw this sign.
This is chickenshit. If you want to raise prices, raise your menu prices. I’m willing to pay for the difference. Don’t blame “inflation” and then add 6% to your prices off-menu. This shit should be illegal.
Cowards.
drahardja, Also, disturbing commentary from an ex-worker of Alice’s:
“Alice’s is a horrible restaurant, they have “weekend menus” where they raise prices dramatically to scalp customers, they mistreat and underpay workers, and the quality and care for the raw food is despicable. The amount of cross contamination in the kitchen is unbelievable, I have seen fresh fish sitting out for hours in the sunlight before anyone bothered to put it away. Do not eat here!! The 6% up charge is the least of your worries if you choose to eat at this despicable restaurant. How do I know? I used to be an employee and witnessed firsthand all of the above mentioned issues and many more!”
Raising prices on weekends is understandable. But the suggestion about poor food handling is not great.

Rycaut, @drahardja one of the best restaurants near me doesn’t do crap fees like this. Instead they just adjust their menu prices to be fair but cover thier costs. During the pandemic they added 50% more space to their indoors and built a large outdoor seating and their food quality went up.
guess what - they are always busy every day for every meal
And have much of the same staff as they had prepandemic

Taffer, We have a car lease expiring soon, and I'd REALLY like to replace it with a hybrid. It's a Nissan Rogue, and we need something about that size/configuration.
- I resent needing to own a car; Canada is far too car-centric.
- Toyota, Kia, Honda all have decent hybrid
- Toyota, Kia, Honda don't have any stock, and the wait times are 5-12 months
Seems like there's a missed opportunity here for someone making hybrids…
kboyd, @Taffer mitsubishi?
Taffer, @kboyd they’ve actually got a great hybrid, but it’s too enormous for us, we’re going to see if Hyundai can hook us up with something

Cethin, It’s also a failure of politics. If you tell people you’re going to raise taxes to pay for the road, you’re probably not getting elected. Toll roads ideally are just another form of tax that is more sneaky than straight up raising taxes.
eLJay, (edited ) People won’t stop driving entirely. Some are legitimately afraid of rain, sun, wind, snow, etc . Placing the toll booths every 100m would go a long way to reducing traffic and reducing dangerous vehicle speeds.
mobilitydimarca, Like we needed another reason to complain about #cars...
"Modern cars are a privacy nightmare"
drahardja, Got $800k+ burning a hole in your pocket? Want to buy a car that you can brag about and trailer to car shows but never drive? Then this #LFA may be for you!
anji, @drahardja I agree. A Ford Mustang Boss 302 on the road is automatically far cooler than any hypercar spending its life in a climate-controlled garage.
drahardja, @anji IMO if you want an experience sorta-kinda like the LFA at a fraction of the cost, get the LC500, which is the LFA for the rest of us. It’s a V8, not a V10, and it’s nowhere near supercar performance. But it is luxurious, fun to drive, and makes loud barking engine noises. It’s not an especially high-performance car, but neither is the LFA when it’s sitting in the foyer.
