I believe this drink goes by 2 names (depending on on how you feel then)
Virgin Mary
Bloody Shame

😜

/pretty sure I read this in some cocktail book a long time ago in my youth/

boozyANDsour,

Tonight's is a great cocktail from the prohibition era:

30ml light Cuban rum
30ml cognac
30ml triple sec
10ml lemon juice
A scant barspoon of simple sirup
3 drops of saline solution

Shake&Strain in a chilled coupe and garnish with a lemon twist.

I love brandy cocktails, and I love rum, so this one is one of the best I've ever made myself.

E niente, l'aperitivo l'ho fatto lo stesso, e molto "strong" come consigliato da @Sveva_1506 .
Mi spiace @matz, niente bloody Mary light 😁

Comunque raccomandatissimo!

Old Pal

Equal parts rye whisky (I used Sazerac), dry vermouth and Campari with a lemon twist.

Usually served up, but whatevs…

SamUpstate,

@drinkswriter @drinkstodon you've inspired me.

Despite the warm weather, something whisky-based felt appropriate around the fire.

Being from New York though, I used a local rye (Rough Rider Bull Moose Rye from Long Island Spirits: https://www.lispirits.com/spirits/rough-rider-whisky/)

drinkswriter,
@drinkswriter@epicure.social avatar

@SamUpstate @drinkstodon I think this one's good for right now where it's warmer out but still not too hot. There's a good balance: it's lighter and drier but still has that whisky depth and a little warming finish.

boozyANDsour,

I always choose my according to my taste, but sometimes...
Tonight I've had the :

60ml manzanilla (fino)
7,5ml Benedictine
Half a teaspoon of peated islay whisky

Stirr&Strain in a chilled Martini glass without any garnish.

Well, I love dry sherry, I love sherry , I also love all the ingredients of this cocktail, but it's not my cup of tea.

The peated note became a unpleasant "fishy" note, and the sherry got lost in between the salty whiskey and the sweet liqueur.

Not recommended.

boozyANDsour,

Tonight's is the East India Negroni, from the great book "Sherry" of Talia Baiocchi

60ml rum, preferably a pot-still and colum blend, I've used Havana Club 3yo;
22,5ml Campari;
22,5ml sweet sherry.

Build in a fancy glass with a big chunk of ice and garnish with an orange twist.

From the serie "I've never drunk a I didn't like". This one is really something!

boozyANDsour,

Tonight's #aperitivo #aperitif is the #vespermartini "my way":

15ml Cap Corse grande reserve quinquina blanc (upped a bit to let the bitter quinquina shine as I like);
20ml vodka;
60ml gin Tempesta;

Shake&Strain in a chilled Martini glass and garnish with a lemon twist.

This cocktail is as good as it is strong.

Views on this have been going crazy lately. I'm not sure why, but nor am I complaining. Give the people what they want, I say. And if what they want is a dirty martini, more power to their elbows!

1:1 all the way to 15:1, small additions of one or more of various bitters, absinthe, violette, maraschino, fino, brine etc etc, various garnishes. They're all good, right? Just as long as the core is gin and dry/white vermouth.

Because anything else may be "martini family" but it's not a "Martini". Despite the existence of the Pornstar and Espresso.

And generally, each variation should have their own name. Not a "Bla Bla Martini". That's just lazy.

boozyANDsour,

Tonight's is the

15ml lemon juice
1,5 barspoon of casted sugar
45ml gin Tempesta (a nice Italian gin, 84 proof)
75ml

Shake&fineStrain the first 3 ingredients, pour in a chilled coupe and top with champagne.
Garnish with a lemon twist.

One of the most festive cocktail ever, and one of the most delicious.
Highly recommended if you have a nice and strong-wish gin at hand.
