Another telescope controversy is brewing, this time on #Maui
The U.S. Air Force wants to build seven more telescopes on the summit of #Haleakala to help better track the growing number of objects whizzing about in #space.
But the proposal, unveiled in public meetings on Maui for the first time last week, ran into a buzz saw of resistance similar to the ongoing opposition to the planned Thirty Meter Telescope on #Maunakea.

The death toll from the fires remained unclear for weeks after the flames were brought under control. Nearly two weeks after the fires, the Federal Bureau of Investigation estimated that between 1,000 and 1,100 people were missing. Three weeks after the fires, the FBI updated their list to reflect that there were believed to be 385 people who were missing and 115 dead.

Gov. Josh Green is proposing using taxpayer and private funds to build new housing and to pay home owners well above market value if they rent long term. Short-term rentals would simply be banned.
@pixel Seems like he should just tax short term rental income enough that it’s a better deal to rent long term and thus avoid driving up long term rates which hurts everyone.

Some of the highlights include a newly published documentation, more work towards the Qt6 migration with MauiKit4 Frameworks and updated applications.
So why the pink? This WorldView satellite image from 11/05/23 tells the story: our wetland in Central Maui isn't wet. It tends to be driest right before the winter rains, but I haven't seen it this dry where there is hardly any water at all in this area.
