RickiTarr, This was a fun one, so let's do it again. What is something you've learned that seems unlikely, even though you know it's true? Here's one I think about a lot:
Sight, while being something something many people are born with, is not an innate ability, but something we learn to do. People who were born blind or were blind for a long time, who get sight, have to learn to see.
anirvan, “The Liberation Commencement speakers contrasted the graduation celebration of the IU students with the situation in Gaza, where there will be no commencement following the Israeli ‘scholasticide,’ the systematic destruction of all of Gaza’s universities and the murder of hundreds of its teachers.”
mem, Spanish I wish @grammargirl (the podcast) existed in German, but even more so in French.
The last episode about what is a word is simply spectacular.
grammargirl, Spanish @mem Thank you! I was thrilled that Paul let me run the excerpt.

evacide, "I cannot be phased by being condescended to by old white men in legislative meetings. I have worked many years in infosec and I am dead inside" is an actual thing I said in an all-hands meeting yesterday.
schwa, So if trump loses this year. Does he go away forever this time?
Please.
Pretty please.
giuseppe, @schwa you know what that’s my main concern. Is he gonna keep popping up every four years until republicans grow some guts or his life span expires, whatever comes first?
krzyzanowskim, Resolving Package Graph Succeeded: 41.2 seconds
idk. maybe it's not made for modules if resolving 20 packages takes 41 seconds. "what can possibly takes that long"
kaqu, @krzyzanowskim meanwhile in python... uv resolves dozens of packages in less than a sec 🙃 I have recently switched from swift to python and this part works sooo much better
shantara, @krzyzanowskim Every few weeks I check on this issue hoping for any kind of progress, but no such luck. For every package dependency, SPM fetches the entire git repo, with all branches and history.
To give an example of how absurd it is, it takes SPM 10 minutes to fetch Firebase package alone on my machine with a gigabit internet connection.
chefraven, I had 4 citronella tea lights (you know, the little metal cups) on my back patio table yesterday and they're GONE. Husband didn't touch them. I thought I'd heard something out back late last night. Has anyone had large birds or squirrels or something else steal candles? So freaking weird.
chefraven,
ai6yr, @chefraven @MsMerope I'm resisting the urge to look up that song, sounds like an earworm I do not want

Skoop, Phun with PHAR: I try to get PHPStan up and running with extensions, but it seems impossible to make PHPStan PHAR work with extensions.
I don't really understand why extensions don't work with the PHAR. It should not really be an issue, right?
Skoop, @acelaya yeah, but that's the thing: I want to use extensions. But I don't understand why extensions won't work when using Phive to install the PHAR, and will work when using Composer to install the PHAR.
Perhaps I need to dig deeper
acelaya, @Skoop I don't have an answer to that 😅
For me being able to use composer is usually a good thing.

ayo, Gonna get hated (again) but this has to be said: hiring juniors who don’t understand the foundations (html, css, js) and the proper separation of concerns will be more expensive in the long run. This should be a non-negotiable. But now maybe the leading cause of frustration and failed projects. It’s a hiring problem. But managers don’t understand this. We need more tech people with battle scars in management positions
GottaLaff,
GottaLaff, 2/ Biden: "The threat that Trump poses is greater in his second term than his first. It's clear that when he lost in 2020, something literally snapped in this guy. That's why January 6 happened ... what do you think would've happened had Black Americans stormed the Capitol?"
GayDeceiver, My very first best friend as a young adult, the guy who taught me so much about how to behave like a normie and not a completely and absolute dork, the one who knew I was madly in love with him and tolerated it because he guessed I needed a male friend, the one who guided me through the lasts gasps of adolescence into young adulthood … the same one who one day just stopped talking to me because I had betrayed him (his words, not mine) — has been my password for a long time. He lives on.

heyheymomo, Let’s make a video game. I make cute graphics, now I only need people to do every other thing. Who’s in
frameworkcomputer, We're excited to announce the latest Framework Laptop 13 with Intel Core Ultra Series 1, an optional 2880x1920 120Hz display (ideal for 2:1 scaling on Linux), and new configurations for businesses with 3 year warranties. Pre-orders are open now.
terrehbyte, @frameworkcomputer That's super tempting, though I'm already happy with my Framework 16...!
The slow display on the Framework 13 was the main reason I had to return it in favor of the 16, but if it's 120hz with good pixel response, I might have to take a look again...
schwa, @frameworkcomputer is there somewhere in the Bay Area I can try one?
