Oh wow. I just disabled Bartender and look which icon was hidden pretty conveniently by it…
This always pops up when an app records the screen. It was always visible for other apps, but disappeared sometimes for a short amount of time, what I thought was a macOS bug.
Seems like Bartender was able to hide this icon, when it was creating the screen recording itself? I'm pretty concerned right now and will definitely remove it immediately.
Bonkers how you can't 3 finger tap an item/link to open it in a new tab on #macOS like you could on #Linux (and #Windows, probably). #Apple forums I was looking into this on all starts with a simple, civilised question and quickly drags into a messy garbage of Apple extremists saying you're stupid for wanting that simple way of opening stuffs in a new tab when you can just either 1) Cmd + Click, 2) 2 finger tap + Open new tab, or 3) Get a mouse - as if those are the same things, when the answer should've been really, "you couldn't".
@adamsdesk I'm on Ventura still and holding off on updating to Sonoma since I've seen quite frequent reports on here of things I need being broken on Sonoma, but seems like a good option when I do upgrade. Thank you!
ICYMI, I launched ,,Done’’ yesterday, a minimal #macOS menu bar app dedicated to tracking your completed tasks. Unlike traditional to-do apps, Done focuses on what you’ve already achieved, helping you keep a clear record of your accomplishments.
It’s on Product Hunt today. if you happen to hang out at such places, I’d really love your upvote! 😇
Something I miss from #MacOS: Being able to command-click on a Finder window's titlebar, and seeing a pop-up menu of the entire file path.
I can't find any convenient way of doing this in #KDE#Dolphin, other than making the window huge so it can show the entire path, which doesn't work with my workflow most of the time.
Just for the curious, the directory I'm working on now is 127 characters long (full path) and 8 directories deep from /
Fed up with #macOS' #Spotlight. No fuzzyfinder, in 2024; no real drilldown; the way it organizes/sorts results are unintuitive. I shouldn't have to remember what /format/ a document is to go "oh right I oughtta scroll down a bunch to see PDFs” 😩
What's good for alternative launcher/finder tools these days? AFAIK, it's still down to the same candidates from ~10ya, ie #Alfred, #Quicksilver, #Launchbar? (EDIT: Raycast enters the chat! Tho its AI focus is worrying.)
I've used #MacOS for my day-to-day work for a good 35yrs. I've had a couple of brief clusters of years where I had to use a Windows at work (but still had MacOS at home).
I've installed #Linux on many old machines to extend their lives a bit, sorting through distros, finding one that would work on limited resources with good results. Fun stuff.
But I'm curious to ask a QUESTION about new computer purchases…
Why is it so hard to have my Mac mini consistently appear on Finder via #ZeroConf#Bonjour? Half the time the computer isn’t visible, and there’s no amount of flushcache or killing mDNSResponder or Finder that brings it back. I wait many minutes with my Finder open and…it spontaneously comes back? WTF?
@stevenodb On the Mac mini? Maybe I should do that. The WiFi sometimes saves me a trip down to the basement when the Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter fails 😄 which happens once in a while.
I noticed my disk storage went drastically low and I started to check system, then I realized something ( #macos update???) enabled iCloud Photos synchronization to my Mac (that can take all the storage it get, and for that very reason I didn't enable it on my mac)
@krzyzanowskim Does anyone still create a limited size partition for their Photos library to keep its maximum disk space usage permanently in check? I remember @marcoarment talking about this many moons ago on @atpfm
