Heads up: Google says that Android's new Instant Hotspot feature won't be available on Samsung devices.

Here's what this means for you: https://www.androidauthority.com/instant-hotspot-wont-work-samsung-3447485/

arnan,

@MishaalRahman doesn't Samsung have it's own version of that?

I've been digging in the rabbit hole for a couple of days, and I've already found some already familiar -and quite annoying- bits similar to the ones you can find in tech (programming, sysadmining, hardware and software choices...) For example, variations on the unsolicited advice "You shouldn't [buy/use] $stuff, that's garbage, use $betterStuff instead". Human nature is what it is and it just switches context I guess. :P

arnan,

@array Yea you shouldn't listen to those accounts 🤣🤣

arnan,

@array Some people give decent advice or ideas, but their answers or posts rarely start with "top this", "best that" or "things you should" and some other variations.

As operating systems are a topic again:

There is no good operating system. You have to choose which flaws you want to live with.

arnan,

@cg But in a few years Linux might be the obvious choice over Windows and maybe even macOS… By the looks of it at least.

Writing the most basic implementation in that is compatible with shared hosting. I've seen some other great projects, but I needed a "call this function with a simple message" functionality for some existing websites

arnan,

@martijn + most PHP activitypub stuff is years old and never maintained :(

Wow, when did macOS start having a reduced menubar hover state in the Finder?

arnan,

@Luke It been like that for a few years now, maybe the last 2 mayor releases?

Though mine has less padding than your screenshot.

It's not very pretty... And has people speculate over coming touch screens and crap like that.

arnan,

@Luke i bet the blurry matches perfectly with that notch in the m macs, i have an intel mbp, so that's probably why it's different for me 😉

that's the most netscape 1.0 modal dialog i've seen in 15 years of using this browser

arnan,

@vga256 + how would restarting the browser/session fix server files 🤣

2.5^2.5 = 9.8821176880262..

Where is this 6 coming from ?

arnan,

@dseguy No floats?

Earlier today, I shared the first prototype of starting and stopping services in Cork.

I've made some adjustments to it, including polishing up the progress indicator, and I think it looks pretty alright.

What do you think?

Did a recent release of Sonoma break the ability for Shortcuts to send keystrokes? Because it USED to work, and Privacy & Accessibility stuff is still turned on to allow it to control this computer. And yet...

arnan,

@masukomi maybe replace the keystrokes with some shell or apple scripts 😉

arnan,

@masukomi oh right. Then I'd recommend making that script into an automator action, get rid of the limitations of shortcuts.

arnan,

@masukomi i have all (2) of my scripted automations in there, works fine 🙃

arnan,

@masukomi Then perhaps fiddle with this -

And another in 14.4.1 that never bothered to fix.

Is 17.4.1 really 17.4.1? Or what?

This one is laughable, but it shows the complete lack of quality control from Apple these days.

And yes, that one has been around at least for three years, we had reported it, but hey.

arnan,

@cdfinder most Apple software has been broken in one way or another for the last 10 years at least 🙃

Working on a new idea for a talk. It’s called DRM - developer resource management - and it’s a framework for helping projects succeed, developers thrive, and companies avoid embarrassing incidents of security and downtime.

Does this hack/bug require access to the server? Like terminal access or something? Some malicious code to be uploaded? Or how does it work?

And then, if it requires terminal access or something similar that normal people visiting sites don't have, how real/high is the risk then?
