We went down to Tower Grove to check out a used bookstore and took a walk through the park. The store was a great hole in the wall with tons of old books. The pictures below are the griffins guarding the entrance to Tower Grove Park. It is a nice day in St Louis but a bit windy. The blue skies are a nice change though.
@mattcaff@heartlandurbanist Great video! I actually had no idea about the light rail push in the 1980s. Glad to see St. Louis decided not only to aim higher but get what they were aiming for.
MetroLink is actually the first transit system I ever rode. Back in 1995 I was a teen and my parents decided to use it to go from the hotel near Lambert-St. Louis Airport to downtown. That left a permanent impression on me & helped turn me into the urbanist I am today. They didn't use it again, but I have
@ND3JR@heartlandurbanist awesome! For me I think it was the DC Metro. My dad was in the Air Force Reserve and would bring us along for his duty at the Pentagon. While he was working, my mom, sisters, and I explored DC on the Metro. I’ll always love that system.
St. Louis Police Chief Receives a Third of His Pay From a Local Foundation, Raising Concerns of Divided Loyalties
In a city with a high violent crime rate and claims of inequitable policing, leaders are questioning the $100,000 per year the chief receives from local business owners.
“Can the criminals get together and pay the chief?” asked one alderwoman.
#stlouis folks on the north side are cuing for food share. These free #food events take excess from grocery stores and redistribute them. Seniors, young uns, 20 somethings…the line is long. These occur five days a week and they have to set limits and constraints because the demand is high and supply is limited. People are very civil.
Good morning friends! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. It's still frigid here in St Louis, the weather says sunny but there's no damn sun at my work. 😠 The cold bites though all three layers I'm wearing. 🥶 Lucky for me I'm an inside employee, I feel sorry for those trying to work out in this shit.
Have a great Monday if that's possible! I'm going to my first adjustment with the cervical spine specialist today, I'm excited and apprehensive...
The actual temperature has dropped 17° from 50°F to 33° and with the 25mph winds it currently feels like 7°F(-14°C) in St Louis. 🥶 ❄️ It looks like that damn Arctic blast they've been calling for is here.
Shoutout to @STLMetro for a rapid response improving stops #8656 and #8826. A Fox Park resident sent in a suggestion for stops hidden from bus operators by trees and Metro responded within 2 weeks - moving the stops to help prevent buses from passing by without stopping.
A 19th century copper printing plate for Liberty Brand Cake Flour in St Louis, MO. We found this cleaning out my grandma's farmhouse and have no idea as to why they had it. They were farmers and so were the previous generations.
@Rasta
I've got an 1850s half dime in my safe I found digging up the outhouse at my neighbor's grandparents. You definitely don't want to dig an active one but if it's not been used for many years you can find all kinds of stuff. We also found a knife and ring in the same dig.
@That_One_Guy Can't be any dirtier than divers going to the bottom of Halifax Harbour to bring up treasures as old as the Halifax Explosion. That's ore of an Active cesspool LOL
"St. Louis, Missouri police crashed into a gay bar and then beat and arrested its owner early on Monday morning and charged him with felony assault, according to a lawyer representing the owner.
Video released by attorney Javad Khazaeli shows a police SUV driving down a street at high speeds and then swerving into Bar:PM at around 12:30 a.m. Monday."

"Sooo. You all heard about the cop car that slammed into Bar PM Sunday night. And they arrested the owner for having the audacity to question him. Well here’s the video:" 1/4
"We represent the owners. And this morning the prosecutors office agreed that Chad will be released on his own recognizance. we are awaiting him walking out of the jail right now.
The prosecutor just called us, and said that they will be amending the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor. But that won’t be enough. We have video that shows that the police were the aggressors. And Chad did nothing wrong." 2/4
"People are asking what they can do to support Chad and James. We will have more in the future but the best thing you can do is come to the bar tonight. We will be open and celebrating Chad’s release.
Please re[post] this. And the media has permission to use this video with proper attribution." 3/4
