So my #arch#linux just catastrophically self-destructed. I was using arch with the yubikey full-disk encryption package, when the machine hung and crashed during a system update. The machine crashed exactly after the old initramfs files were cleaned up, and before the new ones were written to disk. Since the yubkikey fde thing stores the seed ("challenge") for the luks key in the initramfs, all copies of the seed are gone now, and the data on that disk is unrecoverable.
The amazing Norman carving on the Edrom Arch near Duns in the Scottish Borders. This is all that remains of a church that was built in the early 1100s and demolished in 1732. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/duns/edromarch/index.html
Are there any good #debian guides for people accustomed to the #redhat ecosystem? I've always used #rhel professionally and for homelab stuff with #arch for my daily drivers. Recent events have me thinking I should know more about Debian. Outside of administering Proxmox I can't say I have much experience with it.
It was just an email, rather than an issue or bug and someone took some efforts to look up my mail and to write me. It made me very happy & we should much more honour the work of others! It reminded me of how much we now take software for granted in our daily life. Things we do and handle our daily business... Even if we don't donate anything or only small amounts, we should always show respect for the time and effort of the author and maintainer. Even a small personalized email can bring great joy :)
The magnificent blind arches decorating the exterior of St Athernase Church in Leuchars, Fife. Built nearly 840 years ago, the arches have been described as "the second finest piece of Norman work in the whole of Great Britain".
