Here's my nephew Jack winning the bronze medal in speed climbing (a sport I was recently surprised to learn exists) at the collegiate nationals! https://youtu.be/HteoxOsW1O0?t=3394 #speedClimbing #climbing

From 2019, before the last year's hellish escalations, a short film by an American-Palestinian climber visiting local climbers in the West Bank. It could so easily be trite (ignore the blurb text below the video), but it's actually brilliant: powerful, joyful, enraging and sad. Watch all 37 minutes of it.

Amazing feat by Belgian climber Anak Verhoeven: she's the fourth woman in the world to climb a 9b route. The hardest grade ever climbed by women.

No wind, temps below 20 f at night, above 70 f in the day. Coming down the chute Sunday morning was gorgeous.

Screenshot of gps data showing elevation over (distance or time, COROS data is confusing, very bad user experience). Numbers show min and max elevation of 8,325 feet and 13,785 feet with an average of 11,529 feet and a total elevation gain of 6,148 feet
Screenshot of thermometer data showing min and max temperatures of 19.5 F and 72.4 F

Watching "Climbing never die" on Reel Rock, and the movie mentions Alexandr Zakolodniy, who at the time of shooting this movie was still alive 😞 https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/features/alexandr_zakolodniy_-_a_climbing_hero_of_ukraine-15129

Thanks to my mate Felipe for persuading me to rock climb after an absence of about 10 years! We did the marvellous 5 pitch Espolon Cerro del Toro outside Motril.

I felt really comfortable apart from the last 4+ slab which stretched my ageing (has-been) ability to it's maximum in my scrambling approach boots. Rock slippers would have been much easier. A nice 60m abseil to finish.

Brought back a lot of happy memories today & proved that there is still life in the old dog 🤣

One of the most wonderful trips I did was climbing from sea level to the summit of a random mountain far away from civilization on Greenland.

The more I climb, the more I fall in love with it.

I'm not fussed about sending routes, but the balance, the biomechanics, the vertical dance... It's incredible.

Why did I not know about this?

Looks like there's a guide doing a free rock rescue clinic via Zoom this coming Monday.

https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/125947636/free-rock-rescue-clinic-4152024

> We will talk through the AMGA Rock Rescue Drill and hopefully cover a ton of good info regarding what to do if shit gets weird. Lowering an injured climber, counterbalance rapping to an injured climber, rapping with a climber, hauling a climber up, knot passes, etc.

Lol the extremely ungraceful exit as I finish a route, slip while deciding whether to downclimb, and hit the ground (well, the mat) with a loud grunt.

I'm still suffering from the side effects of the clock change and my energy levels in the morning are not what they were last week, but I still went today and found a new fun project to work on.

I really like those grips, even if they are on a route above my level 😅

🧗🏻‍♂️ After looking at climbing anchor practice rigs sold online, I decided to make my own. Allowing for extra hardware it did work out a bit cheaper💸. Wing nuts on the back allow easy repositioning of bolts. Great for practicing anchor building and other setups in the shed!

When you're failing a lot and feeling hopeless, watch this.

She failed every day for six years, until she didn't.

Also note how she says that she sees climbing as learning and she loves the process. Enjoy the process and don't be attached to outcomes. Intrinsic motivation is the killer app.
